You aren't going to take the fish you release back to where it was caught. My only beef with tournaments these days is that they are removing all the keeper fish out of all the upper end areas, and shuffling the fish from everywhere else around. You're not fishing for fish that have predictable habits anymore, you're basically fishing behind a stocking truck for fish that have no idea where they are at. Exactly. Old plug Posted October 22, 2017 Posted October 22, 2017 Vernon myself I do not do tounaments. I got disgusted with that very very early. I do bot kep dish more than minutes except a few a year to eat. My thing about tournaments is what all the hype has done to what was a simple sport. It is not bassball, footbsll or golf that are real sports. Fishing was pleasant low cost past time that most people could enjoy. Now days it cost you a arm and a leg to buy things that are so overpriced. It just astounds me how much people wil pay for rods, reals , boats and motors you name it because somebody has been husseling them. My neigbor across the road just paid $81,000 for a bass boat. People pay $100 easy for rods and reels. $15 for a lure is nothing. Do you really think there is that much quality in those product to make them worth it. I think it is more like keeping up appearances for most fishermen. I have been using ugly sticks since they came on the market and have never ever had one break. I had to stop because problems with my shoulders and switched to Berkly Cherrywood for lightness. I do like the smoothness of the new reels. But I also know they are to complicated and subject to a lot more failure (this I have seen first hand at a repair shop) than the old round reels To me all this is Just more abuse of the enviorment to get into your money. I'll agree that some of the fishing industry has gotten a little out of hand in "bass bling". But you can't blame the company's for producing because there is clearly a demand for it. Where I will disagree with you is the cost of some items such as rods and reels. Go get one of your old round reels and put that against a modern low profile mid-to-high end reel and see which one casts further with half the effort. See which one is easier to skip docks. See which one doesn't backlash thrown into the wind. If you have physical ailments due to the weight issues of your tackle, why would you not spend a little more money on equipment that weights around 10-13 ounces in a rod and reel combo? That combo would allow you to not only fish more often but also more comfortably without pain or fatigue. Seems like, if I were in your position and discomfort was keeping me from doing something, I would pay whatever the cost that I could afford to turn back the clock a little on my aging body parts. In the end it's each individuals decision on what they want to spend there money on. None of my business. magicwormman, Smalls21 and Royal Blue 3
Flysmallie Posted October 23, 2017 Posted October 23, 2017 A couple of years ago I spent $36 on a new baitcaster. It has outperformed the high dollar Lew's it hangs out with. Yeah it's not made out of magnesium but the fish have decided to cut me some slack on that. Bass Yakker 1
MOPanfisher Posted October 23, 2017 Posted October 23, 2017 There are many fishers of fishermen out there and a lot of them make way more $$ than any pro fisherman ever though about. I won't mention any names but one of the best has his headquarters right here in MO. magicwormman 1
fishinwrench Posted October 23, 2017 Posted October 23, 2017 I realized a long time ago that I was gonna live a way better life by working on those guys boats than I was by trying to beat them at fishing all the time. If you are going to be a top tier money winning bass fisherman then you have to BASS FISH every time you go out. If you're dickin' round wasting your time with crappie, whites, river smallies, and trout, then you're likely to be several notches down in the check getting line next weekend. I always had trouble with that part because I love all kinds of fishing. The guys taking 1st thru 3rd in the upcoming weeks will be the ones NOT posting deer pics on Facebook. Guarantee ya that. Blaming a company for making a product that the consumer wants and turning a profit? So you are not in favor of the American Dream or capitalism? Seems reasonable. If people didn't buy it, the companies wouldn't make it. So who exactly is to blame? The chicken or the egg? magicwormman, fishinwrench, tho1mas and 3 others 6
