Increasing spread of CWD has raised concerns about the potential for increasing human exposure to the CWD agent. ... Chronic wasting disease (CWD) is classified as a transmissible spongiform encephalopathy (TSE), or prion disease, along with other animal diseases, such as scrapie and bovine spongiform encephalopathy.

MONKEYS? what monkeys?

There have been documented cases of CJD from eating squirrel brains, however as of yet no cases are documented from deer to humans.  There is however I believe a case of CWD transmission from contaminated venison to a macaque monkey.

Lets put this into perspective by chances of dying of other things. First off yearly in the us there are maybe 350 cases a year of Creutzfeldt -Jakob desease.

Smoking related deaths. 443,000 in the US annually and 55,000 from secondhand smoke.

I will eat lean healthy wild meat!

Then we have this little factoid of other causes of death. I think I will continue not to smoke and stay well within my weight range,

If you've ever even walked alongside someone who was smoking a cigarette then they'll claim you died from second hand smoke .....but yet you can stand over a barrel of burning trash 3 times per week, or spend months burning leaves and brush, and the term second hand smoke never gets mentioned in the autopsy.  I find that utterly amazing. 🙄

I know that I will likely have little risk of contracting it from squirrel brains since there ittle brain matter left if I shoot well enough. I don't think that @BilletHead will have an issue either. He shoots better than I do 😁.

Wasting lots of good meat by shooting in the head. You got the cheeks and the tongue that add up to way more than you would get from the ribs.  When I was 4 eating squirrel, biscuits and gravy with my grandpa, I asked him for the wish bone.  He gave me a chunk of fried squirrel and I commenced to gnawing on it. I came to an ear and told my grandpa. He said eat around it. I came to an eye and told my grandpa.  He said eat around it.  I came to some teath and told him. He said eat around them. I came to the tongue and told him.  He said, give me that.  That’s the best part!

No use for the head other than a target. My grandmother told me once to quit shooting them in the head :) .

If you're digging the brains out of animals so you can eat it......then there was something already bad wrong with you before you ever ate them.

Gives a whole new meaning to brain food 😆
