Dutch Posted December 1, 2018 Posted December 1, 2018 And I met several of them this morning. I drove to Stockton after the weather guesser said the farther north the less fog. WRONG. Anyway the fog was from moderate to thick as pea soup. At least 1 of every 3 vehicles that I met were driving without their lights on. White ones and gray ones were just there with no advance sighting. End of rant. Ham, tho1mas and Johnsfolly 3

Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted December 1, 2018 Root Admin Posted December 1, 2018 I have the same pet peeve about people with headlights... they should be on all the time from the factory. Same thing yesterday morning coming back from the gym about 7:30 am... I wore my bright switch out flashing 'em. tho1mas and Daryk Campbell Sr 2
tjm Posted December 1, 2018 Posted December 1, 2018 I hate lights on all the time from the factory on my cars and on cars I meet. It doesn't make any body any safer than requiring all cars to be orange from the factory or requiring all drivers to brush their teeth before bed. GM sold that myth and many countries bought into it when GM had the patent rights, and all other manufactures had to pay them, yet studies in some of those countries show it prevents no accidents. It does strain your charging system and shorten the life of the bulbs. Two toned- Chartreuse over Safety Orange with reflective markings, that's what they all should be. Any one not smart enough to turn their own lights on should not be driving period. Also, any one not smart enough to turn their lights off. Enforce laws we already have, don't add more til some are removed. Half the population is cops put them out there when the weather is bad, ever notice they get busy on pretty days and disappear when it rains? Head lights are a pet peeve of mine though in that these LED, or what ever they are, are so bright that they hurt and the blindness is slow to dissipate. As a matter of fact I met a suv yesterday afternoon running High beams and even in day light they were blinding as he was turning and slightly above me. All vehicles with those lights should be recalled. And what is worse is the jacked up big man pick ups with after market off road lights blasting down the night with four or six zillion candle powers of ultra brites. Every body I've mentioned this to agrees that they are bad. Again the modified lights are an enforcement issue, federal law says no tampering with safety systems and lights are safety. My insurance man said that when enough one car accidents are tied to the oncoming brights that they will be banned, but it's hard to get evidence from dead folks.
MOPanfisher Posted December 1, 2018 Posted December 1, 2018 Well I can partly agree, except that the goober who are not smart enough to turn them o will end up getting other people killed, maybe me, or my wife, kids, grandson so I have zero problems with the lights being on automatically. Sadly too many folks drive in the fog, snow, heavy rain just like it was a bright clear day. I do agree about some of the lights, the ones with dedicated daytime lights are better. Soon vehicles will be detecting bright lights ahead and automatically go to low beams. My truck automatically dims the inside rear view mirror when it detects brights lights behind me, I kind of like it.
jdmidwest Posted December 1, 2018 Posted December 1, 2018 I met one the other night in town of Salem Ark. running one of those full width blaster LED's. I politely bright lit him up and he turned them off. In all reality, he may be night blind and need those to see the road while driving. I would feel more comfortable if he is able to see where he is going and my vehicle on the road. Back to averages, I think the current population in this area leans to almost 80 % idiots any more. I have to drive a few hours to bring that average back down to 50 %. As far as driving, the town I spend most of my daytime driving in has 30k people and has about 1 rollover death accident on the streets that have a posted 35 mph speed limit. That takes some talent. Pretty hard to roll a vehicle on a nice level street with no embankments at 35, but they do it. "Life has become immeasurably better since I have been forced to stop taking it seriously." — Hunter S. Dutch Posted December 1, 2018 Author Posted December 1, 2018 Well I guess more than one of us has a similar rant. Terrierman you are correct but I didn't think "Half of the people are below the median", would get much response. Terrierman 1
snagged in outlet 3 Posted December 1, 2018 Posted December 1, 2018 My truck dims the brights when there is an on coming car. It will also dim on the reflection it gets back from road signs.
