Watch some of the regular old timers.  Talk and visit with them.

Change speed of retrieve, change depth of retrieve, change color, change location and start over.

When fishing from a boat in current, get it on the bottom.

If you are a spin fisherman, the best thing you can do is learn to fish a jig on Taneycomo. A 6-6.5' rod with a decent backbone is required for straight line fishing a jig. Use 2# line for 1/32-1/16oz and 4# for a 1/8oz jig.

Taneycomo trout love the color pink! A pink Trout Magnet or Berkley power worm fished beneath and indicator is a great way to catch a lot of trout.

When the water is generating, focus on current seams formed by structure, creek mouths, etc. Trout will school up here during heavy generation and scatter out in the area when the water is off.

Fishing is typically the toughest when there is no generation, zero wind and bright, blue skies. Overcast with generation or enough wind to impart a decent ripple on the waters surface are usually best.

Fishing jigs, Trout Magnets, Power Worms, midges, etc beneath a float works best with a ripple on the waters surface. This will impart action to your lure.

When trout are midging, a great way to catch them is to fish a zebra midge, micro jig or any other small lure a foot or two beneath an indicator. Ease up to the midging fish and throw near them. Many times the trout will bite right away, but sometimes you will have to twitch the lure a few times to try and get them to strike.

Brown trout are a cover oriented fish. An effective way to target them is to throw jerk baits and crank baits around the plentiful wood cover that gathers on outside and inside bends. 

Live bait such as night crawlers, minnows and sculpins tend to produce better quality trout on average than power bait or salmon eggs

When fishing night crawlers, don't forget to inject air in to the worm to make it float up off the bottom when targeting trout. Taneycomo also has a good population of white suckers. If you also want the opportunity to catch them, leave the air out of the worm and let it wiggle on the bottom.

Can't catch em from the couch. 

Don't make excuses to not go fishing, life is short,  just go fish. You'll never remember what you did at work or the day you spent on the couch, but you'll always remember a good fishing trip. 

Taneycomo requires adaptability and versatility. Once you stop waiting for the perfect flow or conditions and just learn to fish all the different kinds of water you will be enlightened. 

There's a whole nuther half of the day once the sun goes down.  Bring a headlamp, extra batteries, a BIG non butterfly net, and a buddy or two and get out there.  Sleeps overrated.

Nobody has mentioned shuffling your feet while drifting a scud behind you😂! Thought that technique has caught more Taney trout than any others.

Seriously there have been many good pointers to catch those Taney fish.

Right!  And once properly enlightened you can go stand at the outlets and sight-fish a Fetal Emerger with the other 79 guys that are always there.

You can learn a lot about trout behavior and catching them in the outlets.  Hopefully you move on and put that to work away from the outlets.  Like how I taught my kids about catching them.

Use a three fly rig and above that put an orange bobber. When the boober hesitates, make a downstream sidearm sweep. As you miss the strike on the bottom fly, you will foul hook one on the middle fly. As you are unhooking the foul hooked fished, the upper fly gets hooked in your ear lobe or chin or neck. Sometimes that foul hooked fish gets tangled with 2 other anglers on the opposite side also using 3 fly rigs. And at that point one or both of the other anglers think that they have fair hooked a fish and the tug of war begins. And when it is all worked out, the other 76 people wait as the 3 fly lines stretched from one side to the other get untangled.

Back in the old days the old boys would tight line night crawlers on bait casters and catch stringers you wouldn’t believe.
