January 19th. Lake Report

All this happens on dock but yet I cant remember how many time I got "spoken" to while spooning docks this last summer.   Its part of having a boat on a dock at the lake!!!. I was cussed at, yelled at and told it was illegal to fish around the docks.  People need to realize that it is a privilege to even be allowed to have a dock at the lake and guys are gonna fish around it and that's the bottom line

I feel privileged, and you are correct. Never had a coon or goose problem yet. Did have a thief. And the sum is still plus.

I do hope to avoid goose or otter poop duty, though!

I'm sure their guns are correctly plugged, they seem to be very professional.  8 shots is most I have heard in any volley, most often 4 to 6.  8 shots seems to be on the weekend, so they probably have an additional gun hunting with them.  Let you know what they do this morning if their out.

Ouick Edit.  just heard them at 7:10.  5 shots so they are out again.

I wonder if hunters sit on their porch in the spring and count the number of jigs hitting the roof of docks......  ;>)

I think they are all done this morning.  Most shooting I've heard to this point   It was pretty continuous for about an hour.  Had to have filled their limits.  The waterfowl must have really flown this morning.

How much longer is the season in this Southern Zone?

Hunters have not been out the last 2 days, so I guess they may be done.  It was really great hearing them every morning, gave me something to look forward to during this cold spell.

I wonder what they did with all the "meat"?  Isn't there possession limits?  You can't eat ducks of goose for every meal.

                      Good question Jerry,

   We eat a lot of waterfowl. The wife hunts too. Daily and possession limits are pretty liberal. On ducks depending on species you can shoot six daily and have three times that In possession. So combined between the wife and I you are looking at 36 ducks in the freezer. On Canada geese three daily and nine in possession. So we can have eighteen geese. We eat as we harvest depending on how close we are to possession.  This all being said you can gift out waterfowl just like fish and other game. There are folks out there that take them and we have gifted out to others. There is an older gentleman that visits the clinic where my wife works. He has told her many hunting stories but cannot hunt anymore. He wants a duck and I will make sure he is happy.

   Could I eat duck everyday? Actually I think I could. If it is properly prepared one of the best meats going.  I have had a guy say if you have to cook it right to make it edible something is wrong. Hey man you can ruin a high priced steak if not cooked right too.  We have eaten duck three to four days a week before but I am a bit greedy. We like to go into off season close as possible to possession limit we can enjoy the birds all summer long.
