Almost all  the crappie i caught that i mentioned earlier in ths thread came off a brush pile that was well hidden that i found with the Garmin 2d. Flat creek gets hit pretty hard this time of year every visible pile gets fished 10 times a day.

I think some people go way over board for sure. If you got the $$$ then more power to you. I'm sure those types pay a lot of your bills and put a lot of fuel in your boat.

It's not like I have anything crazy. My console graph is an 8 year old Humminbird 998c hdsi. It has side imaging, GPS and a mapping chip. I'm able to scan a large area in minutes and find all of the cover with it as well as find suspended fish, but the pictures are nearly as pretty as the newer units. You can find my unit used online for $300-400 all the time these days. Panoptix is pretty awesome, but I'm not sure if I will ever actually invest in it because I don't know if it would be worth it like the side imaging was. Sure I can pin point fish and get a live view of them, but if I'm on fish then I'm going to catch them anyways. My fancy 5" black and white graph on the bow works for staying on brush piles and that's the main thing I need out of it.

I'm pretty good at reading people and knowing whether they are spending money that wasn't truly earned......or spending money that they worked hard to get.  I take no pride in hurting hard working people's bank account simply because they've been mislead.

I have installed a bunch of awesome systems, and then kept an eye on those guys success for a good while afterwards.   And honestly they don't catch any more fish than they did before.   They do, however, log a considerable amount of more idle time on their outboards.  

          @Seth    Come on he is having a bad day. Got to quit picking on him @fishinwrench. I bet you guys that can read and understand what you are seeing can find some old Evinrude outboards in Davy Joneses locker on the bottom of the lakes for him to rebuild. That should make him happy ! Just look at the old boy. Mrs. BilletHead says he looks like  Walter the ventriloquist dummy .   You really should of not sent this to me Glenn Buddy. I am going to get a lot of miles from this one!

High end electronics are just tools.  Like any end tool if the operator know how to use thwm properly and we'll they can make a difference, if not well it won't make much difference.  Sort of like a bad fisherman (like me) buying a super high end G Loomis bronze back rod and putting a $400 reel on it, ain't gonna make much difference.  On the other hand give a good fisherman a $50 rod and $50 reel and he will beat me like a rented mule.  Now with all that said, I wish I had some cool high end electronics, I have a $100 depth finder, console only.

I can relate to that MOPanfisher. I have enough in equipment to be a decent fisherman , and yet I got a ways to go to be average. My bushiness manager (wife) says I need to get my operating cost down. I am currently in the red at $762.43 per fish!!! 😫
