Lowrance Ghost?

I got one of the very first Ultrex's after they were released and have been nothing but thrilled.  Unlike Bill, I don't notice the issue with drift but then I'm not a professional guide so I'm sure my expectations and demands are considerably less.

I also don't have an issue with the deploy and stowing of the motor and for me personally it's the easiest to lift in both directions of any that I've owned (of course I used to workout).😉

Nor do I find it to be noisy but then I'm gettin' pretty close to deaf so there's that.......

All that being said, if I was buying a new boat or re-rigging my troller and electronics I'm pretty sure that I'd go all Garmin.  Part of that reasoning is I continue to absolutely hate Lowrance but I know that's just me being to dumb to figure out how to use the danged things but I've also been really impressed with what I've seen of the Garmin.

I don't know how much actual use I'd get out of the feature allowing a guy to link the motor and the graph and follow contours but all things being equal I'd just as soon have the option.

Bottom line I guess is that I've got the biggest, bestest, baddest boat and electronic gadgets that I've ever owned and each of 'em far exceed what I need and certainly what I deserve and leave 90% of the fishing world drooling with envy.

Nonetheless, I still get jealous of guys that have anything better or newer than I do as I absolutely loves me some toys!

If I've learned anything in my near 67 years of coveting and accumulating excessive and unnecessary materialistic things it's to always buy the absolute best that you can reasonably afford.  

Nothing worthwhile is cheap so you just as well do all that you can to avoid complicating things by introducing buyer's remorse into the equation!

i guess that at this point in life, i'm not that mad at the fish, and will depend on my brain a bit.  and fighting the wind will give me something to cuss about all the time while fishing.  God knows us, and He does have a sense of humor with many of us.  so, He torments me with fighting the wind out in the middle of the ocean to see if i really love fishing enough to keep putting up with all the wind.

and, on the flip side, where is the wind when you want to go crankbaiting???

on a more serious note about trolling motors is noise.  shallow bass are easily spooked by a noisy trolling motor.  one of the reasons that i went from a motor guide to minn kota several decades ago.  so, i would have to go with someone that has the spot locks to see how much noise there is while steering.  i am assuming the actual motors would still have their each individual amount of noise.

fishing shallow, i want full control of the motor, and i rarely ever take my foot off the switch.  a trolling motor kicking on and off is a no-no.  very shallow big bass at night are very spookiy critters.  i often even shut off the electronics when the bass seem to be super shallow.  so, noisy steering systems just might rule out spot locks for me, even though they are nice out in the middle of the lake.

I havent used and Ultrex but i was at Pomme fishing the other day and i could here a guys Ultrex constantly turning. I thought it was a bit loud if i could hear it 50 yards away

A good sound representation is on Phil's current fishing report for Taney, go and listen to Duane Doty video of fishing crankbaits.  Listen from about the 16 minute mark thru the 23 minute mark.  Duane is running a 2018 Ultrex.

It totally drives me batty hearing that thing on both turning the head and running the prop.  The noise is extremely loud and if you cannot hear it or don't think its loud you may need a hearing aid.  I don't know that it bothers the fish, but it for sure drives me crazy.   But in hindsight, that is not a long drive.

Of course I'm old and I hate noises, a air leak in the windows of my truck would drive me to buy a new truck.  I will tell you the difference in the Motorguide X5 and Xi5 is simply and totally quiet compared to the Minn Kota Ultrex and the Ulterra.  The direct drive Minn Kota Four Trax is just as quiet and the Motorguide motors.

When your in these boats 300 plus days a year stuff like this matters to me.  Of course it is also Ford/Chevy which ever you like, and just because I don't like something or will not put up with it does not mean I'm right and you may think its fine or my nit picking may not bother you at all.

Wow - mine isn't either.

I don't think a guy could hear mine from 50 feet but I guess I could be wrong.

I'm just glad that I like mine cause I usually nitpick stuff to death but I've got no issues with my Ultrex and am completely satisfied.

I guess that's why they make so many different brands, models and types.

Some of the wireless TM's are indeed noisy above water, but I've run right up in the vicinity of spooky carp, and have watched bass in clear shallow water less than 20 feet away, and they don't act freaked out about the noise of the motor turning at all.   

Drop your little remote fob thingy on the floor of the boat though....and they'll bolt off right away. 😊
