I guess that's the part big brother tracks? micro transmitter?  I was an USN electronics expert once but but the gear was all tubes and analog, stuff that we could see; computer the size of a car type stuff. I believe they can now compress all that circuitry into tiny chips.

Didn't they catch some gun thieves a while ago in Springfield by investigating all the phones that had been at that location over the day of the theft?

I remember being "woke" after 9-11.  

The belief before that was that total privacy was a thing.  Yet amazingly they had record of every word of every single phone call and text message that was made just prior to the event.

Most phones allow you to turn off the gps in it, it saves alot of power.

The phone still pings a tower and gives approx locations.  Gps gives a target to within a few feet.  With gps off, they know you are moving around, but they can't see you walking into Wally World.

Not really paranoid, but have no need for the gps chip draining power.  I turn off wifi and bluetooth also to extend the battery life.  I use my phone as a phone most of the time.  I have computers and tablets for the rest.

I run my WiFi off my Phone . Actually I do a bunch with my Phone
