Bill Babler Posted June 23, 2020 Posted June 23, 2020 Couple of things about things. Thru the help of a very good friend I now am running Garmin on my Phoenix Bass Boat. What I have learned in the past two weeks, is that times have changed. Yesterday my boy and I were in schooling fish. At times they would push them against the surface and at times they would run thru them at depth. I could see the fish running into shad balls at 70' in front of my boat with my Panoptix Livescope  We would throw a Dixie Jet flutter spoon to them watching the spoon sink and see them rise to the spoon and take it 10' under water. You could see the fish diving thru and coming up thru the shad balls 50' from your boat and no matter the depth. It reminded me of watching the gulls on the ocean diving thru herring. Unless you see this its hard to believe or explain. As for the Garmin trolling motor it is about as far ahead of anything out there as an outboard is over an oar. There is a pretty good reason these Garmin boat buddies are priced as they are. I got a great deal, but in my opinion they are worth the full price if that is in your budget. They have helped me catch fish I probably would have never seen, and I have only had them on the tub for a couple of weeks.  m&m, 196champ, bobby b. and 6 others 9 http://whiteriveroutfitters.com http://whiteriverlodgebb.com
moguy1973 Posted June 24, 2020 Posted June 24, 2020 It's a niche market. Very few people out there are in the market for fish finders compared to those in the market for large flat screen TVs. There's also very few manufacturers, and when one comes out with a new tech people want and will pay for they can pretty much charge what they want for it. You can say the same thing about computers and tablets and cell phones. Why pay $1200 for a new phone when you can have a laptop computer for the same price with a much bigger screen and a keyboard for a few hundred bucks less? pstone Posted June 24, 2020 Posted June 24, 2020 Bill, thanks for the information on your Garmin set-up. Sounds awesome!  I went ahead and ordered the Garmin gear from the guy doing my installation: Force TM; (2) of the Echomap Ultra 106SV's for bow and console; and the livescope transducer/box. I also decided to get a custom shaft to mount the Livescope transducer to.  I ordered one from an outfit near St. Louis-All  aboard Marine.  They make custom shafts for Force; Minnkota and Lowrance TM's also.  The shaft attaches to the Force TM and doesn't move when the TM is moving and comes with a handle to adjust the position.  Also, didn't need to get the Perspective mount, as their hardware allows movement of the Transducer to the perspective mode as well as forward view and down view.  He charges $385, which includes shipping.  A guy I work with got this set-up a couple of months ago and he said it works well.  He has the Minnkota TM.  I plan to retire end of next year, which will allow more time on the water and makes this investment easier! mixermarkb and snagged in outlet 3 2

Yeah, I love it ! The display and target separation is just awesome. "Cool. So are you catching more fish now then you were before?" Uh, well uh, hmmm.....No not really.  🤔   😅 Idk about units that cost several thousand dollars, but when I was a kid at table rock, I would just point hop and hit dock ends with night crawlers. I caught lots doing that because I knew which points were good. When I got a graph (humminbird something or other. About 700$) I was able to see bait and fish that I'd never seen before and it definitely helped me catch more fish. Now I just idle around the point and if I dont see anything I move on and dont even waste time fishing. I'm way more efficient with a graph. It also has helped me tremendously with offshore crappie fishing, and trolling at Stockton lake. Even at the little lakes where I live, crappies stack up on deep brush and the graph is helpful.  Â
