Johnsfolly Posted December 15, 2020 Posted December 15, 2020 Missouri's first elk was harvested in the state's first elk-hunting season in modern history according to the Missouri Department of Conservation. Joe Benthall, of Mount Vernon, harvested a 2.5-year-old bull elk on Saturday near Ellington. This was Benthall's first-time elk hunting. 5 Missourians received permits in a drawing of over 19,000 permit applications. The elk firearms season runs through Dec. 20. According to the Missouri Department of Conservation, elk are a native species in Missouri but were hunted to extinction in the state in the late 1800s. In 2011, an effort was begun to reintroduce about 100 elk to a remote area of southeast Missouri. The population now numbers more than 200 and is concentrated in Shannon, Carter, and Reynolds counties. BilletHead, Quillback and laker67 3

Well Duh!!! 🙄 What makes them think that they've become any harder to see ... and to miss? Guns, ammo, and Auto body shops are way better NOW......So they'll be extinct again REAL QUICK. Please stop pissing our money away! 😞 jfrith and snagged in outlet 3 1 1

Devan S. Posted December 16, 2020 Posted December 16, 2020 Pretty cool to be #1. I signed up for the drawing. Never hunted elk but thought what the heck toss my name into the ring and hope to be one of the first. If nothing else and I won would be an opportunity for meat in the freezer at a discount vs. travelling. Alas I didn't win. Any one else notice the picture is on the side of the dirt road? I thought they couldn't hunt the peck ranch area specifically? I'm not totally familiar with the area so could be wrong. Just seems random to have a photo alongside a dirt road anywhere let alone publicized by MDC.
Johnsfolly Posted December 16, 2020 Author Posted December 16, 2020 I haven't followed where they allowed the hunts to take place. But I've been in Peck ranch and that's what the photo looked like to me.. They said near Ellington. So possibly Current river CA.. snagged in outlet 3 1
