You all are being pretty hard on theses folks.
For the most part theses guys still love the competition and the competitive aspects of tournament angling. They are really only competing against the fish. 
I guide lots of theses people and most of them are simply wonderful people that miss the participation of either team or individual sports. 

They have the resources to do this and really enjoy it.  Most know they are not fishing to win but fishing to place, all want to exceed and keep improving   
 

On any day however they can and do place and finish high. This keeps them going, and for guys that are on the back side of 40 there is not a lot of other things they can do to keep those juices flowing.

I vehemently disagree with the can and do finish high.... the list of donations is much, much longer than winners. Championships have most of the same faces in them paid for by the others.

100% agree with you Bill! I for 1 am 41, I am good at alot of things and great at none of them. I miss competition at times and still enjoy learning at the same time. I have always Loved fishing and have had a deep V crappie/walleye boat for years. I'm at at the point where I can now afford a Bass Boat and will start to fish tourn alone possibly. I have fished many and won a few out if the back of partners boats and Love it. I can 100 % understand why some are against tournaments and will not argue points with any of them. As long as they keep issuing these ragatta, the tournaments  will be there weather I decide to fish or not. Some enjoy casinos, some enjoy golf, some enjoy other extra caricular activities.  To each there own in my eyes. Rant Finished! Lol

Nice to see Watson win.  He has been at Grand and Lake O Lately and doesnt fish all that much on TR even though its in his back yard. As quick as Table Rock has been changing changing, he had a dang good couple days.  I cant ever catch them two days in a row

Yeah, some of those guys out there have fished upward of 30 FLW events and only have $1,600 in career earnings ... and only $420 of that in 6 years as a boater ... average of $21 per event. Hmmmm.

I don't mind guys doing what they like. But to inflict it on a co-angler...bit different.

Many years ago when I was in the Southwest Missouri bass club we had Charlie Campbell as a guest speaker.  He was asked by one of the members what the qualifications were to become a professional bass fisherman.  His reply.  " Have enough money to pay the entry fee"
