BilletHead Posted January 5, 2023 Posted January 5, 2023 One of mine is driving an hour to the ramp, then launching and running 45 minutes in pitch dark to a favorite spot for a fly rod hour bite that starts as soon as you can see to cast. Note this is a river full of logs and rocks. Johnsfolly Posted January 5, 2023 Posted January 5, 2023 However, we spent one spring and summer adventure fishing strip pits in Rocky Forks CA near Columbia. Some of these pits had terrible access which made them more attractive thinking that they would have less fishing pressure. Lots of hikes through thick brush to get to open water. However, the worst one required a climb down a 15 to 20 foot cliff to reach the water (nothing like your video). I was fishing a Gulp jerkbait and hooked into what I thought was a 7 Lb bass. Turned out to be a 5 to 6 lb channel catfish. I thought about keeping the fish but looked up at the cliff that I had to climb to get out and just let it go 😉! When I first started fishing the Current river with my hand painted jerkbaits, I did climb one of the bluffs well below Baptist access to get my lure back😅. Daryk Campbell Sr 1

grizwilson Posted January 5, 2023 Posted January 5, 2023 There is a guy I fish with often. One spot on a tailwater, we use a 40# anchor, and one of us runs the motor, to hold the boat in place, while the other casts. When we get a fish on the motor man has to pull the anchor in addition to running motor while the fisherman fights the fish into his backing. We do wear PFDs but......a bit iffy for a couple of old guys...... Dutch Posted January 5, 2023 Posted January 5, 2023 Before the nighttime speed limit, I would launch at Cape Fair and motor to Baxter. I could do that quicker than driving to Baxter. I’d fish until midnight then make the run back at wot, 17’ Ranger with a 150 Mariner motor. grizwilson and Johnsfolly 2

Fishing with my past buddy Richard Button who has passed. @Ham knows the place. High tailrace current. Richard running the boat slinking down the river at current speed and me Throwing big Clousers in current breaks as we drifted. Got hung up I said darn I really don't want to lose that big bait. He says I can get you over to it. We go over and I am on my knees reaching out to retrieve it. Current catches us, Richard corrects, and I go over the side. Fly rod breaks. I get rescued. I dry out and lifejackets get put on and we fish more. Lesson learned. grizwilson, Ham, nomolites and 1 other 4 "We have met the enemy and it is us", Pogo If you compete with your fellow anglers, you become their competitor, If you help them you become their friend" Lefty Kreh " Never display your knowledge, you only share it" Lefty Kreh "Eat more bass and there will be more room for walleye to grow!" bfishn Posted January 5, 2023 Posted January 5, 2023 Oh man... I don't have the energy to type all the crazy stupid stuff I've done to get to a fishing hole. Some of it I'm sure you'd find amusing, but none of it seemed crazy or stupid at the time. 🥴 Daryk Campbell Sr, Ham and BilletHead 2 1 I can't dance like I used to.
fishinwrench Posted January 5, 2023 Posted January 5, 2023 During late fall, years ago, I found some good sized bass in Duroc bay on the upper Osage. The lake dropped about 7" but I figured the fish were still in there. I knew I could shoot over the berm and get into the cove if I kept the boat on plane with the motor trimmed......but I wasn't sure how I was gonna get back out of there. So I devised a plan......I would go around in circles inside the cove to get the boat on plane, then trim the motor up and scream out of there. It's only silt and gravel, so the worst that could happen is that I would just get STUCK, right? So we did catch the fish, had a solid limit that weighed 18.3 in less than 4 hours.....but now it was time to make my escape. Started going in tight circles, crawling the boat up on plane, and had an instant BRIGHT IDEA......I would ride my wake over the berm! 💡 Not thinking that the boat would be going faster than the crest of the wake. So like an idiot I slowed down to try and stay on top of the crest, but misjudged it, buried the nose of the lower unit into the bottom, and the boat came to an immediate stop. Oops! 🤬. But wait......Here comes the backwash! 😁. As soon as the backwash lifted the transom of the boat I HAMMERED THE THROTTLE and shot out of there like a missile launch. We got our 2nd place and big-bass check, put the boat on the trailer, then I immediately hopped out to inspect the carnage that had haunted me all the way back to PB2.....just a couple of little nicks on the prop and some scuffed paint on the gearcase and skeg. 😁 👍 tho1mas, Targa98, Daryk Campbell Sr and 3 others 4 2
