MOPanfisher Posted February 4, 2016 Posted February 4, 2016 Wow don't read a topic for a while and it explodes. In the incident where the young man was killed, terrible but I have no idea what happened and in reality neither does his brother for sure. As for carrying a firearm, carry, don't carry whatever makes you happy as long as you are legal. Be aware of your surroundings, if you get that prickly feeling on thr back of your neck (most of you know what I am saying) LISTEN to what it is telling you don't ignore it. As for having your weapon confiscated after a shoot, almost certain to happen at least temporarily, not a problem to me even if it was the bestest, most expensive and favorite weapon I owned, I like my life more. If you get involved in someone else's fight, well better be sure enough to bet your freedom on it, because you are. Should be no issues with losing other weapons you might own or CCW permit until convicted of a crime. What else, yes carrying concealed or in the open while working is not feasible for many. Working in an office sure, mechanic not so much everyone has the option. More often than not I don't carry but that is my choice. Whatever you choose to do simply pay attention, use good common sense and continue on with life. Tanderson15, dtrs5kprs, cheesemaster and 2 others 5
holleybob Posted February 4, 2016 Posted February 4, 2016 For all of those wanting to conceal/carry there is something you need to consider. Law enforcement has taught an edged weapon self defense called "the 21 foot rule" for many years. Basically if a guy with a knife is less than 21 ft away from you and you have a holstered handgun, the guy with the knife will likely get to you before you can fire your weapon. Your first reaction in this situation is to ALWAYS back up first creating distance as you unholster and prepare to fire. I don't pretend to know what happened in Dylan's case but even if he was carrying he may not have stood a chance if the confrontation was at a very close proximity and he had not had proper handgun training. Truly a sad deal. As mentioned earlier I cannot fathom the loss of a child. And for those still wanting to carry please, please practice your self defense skills. These things happen very fast and practice creates the muscle memory that your life may very well depend on. For the record I am an advocate of open carry and conceal carry. Carrying is not the same as knowing how to carry or use your weapon. magicwormman, Riverwhy and Grumpy53 3
fishinwrench Posted February 4, 2016 Posted February 4, 2016 I think all people who carry have a series of scenarios in their head of how it's gonna go down if they ever have to use their gun. No matter how many different scenarios you think you are mentally prepared for, it will be a totally different one if/when it happens. The greatest possibility is that there will be other people/houses/cars behind the guy you wanna shoot. Or there might be two or more of them. All armed. Or the one physically attacking you isn't armed...but his buddy is. Statistically criminals don't kill people who are running away (only cops do that), so your best self defense tool just might be your legs.
ness Posted February 4, 2016 Posted February 4, 2016 So I was with a couple old high school buddies last weekend. The two of them get to talking about guns and when we get back to the house the one whips out a Smith and Wesson something-or-other and hands it to the other guy and says there's nothing in the chamber. Second guy lays is in his palm, looks down at it -- the gun is pointed directly at me sitting on the couch across the room so I mentioned that and got up and moved. The guy holding it is very experienced with guns, but to my thinking he has gotten complacent. He didn't even notice what I'd said or that I'd moved. Fools with guns scare the crap outta me. 34 minutes ago, fishinwrench said: Statistically criminals don't kill people who are running away (only cops do that), so your best self defense tool just might be your legs. Oh, brother. Citation please. John

Hunter53 Posted February 4, 2016 Posted February 4, 2016 Idiots that are ignorant about guns, are scared of an inanimate object and then want to infringe on others rights are what form my opinions about liberals and their hurt feelings. Champ188 and abkeenan 2
fishinwrench Posted February 4, 2016 Posted February 4, 2016 At least we all agree that idiots are bad. I wish there was a mandatory background check to see which kind of idiot everyone is, and we should all wear easily visable markings so we know who we're dealing with at all times. Different colored noses or something.
BilletHead Posted February 4, 2016 Posted February 4, 2016 Here's your sign! Wrench what color would your nose be? I sure hope it isn't brown . Seriously there are all kinds running around among us. You can't fix stupid. I know after reading everyone's posts on these seven pages I sure hope if I am stabbed that my fly fishing friends would back me like the bass men do for one of their own.
