I think it sucks myself.  I found a lot of product I wanted at Cabelas that I couldn't find at BP.  Now I am thinking all I will find is BP stuff and that will be it.

I really don't think that much will change. Cabela's I think is more hunting oriented and Bass Pro is more fishing oriented. Probably why Johnny ponied up 5.5 Bil to acquire them. Wants more of the hunter sales share I would imagine. Only two outdoor activities really...hunting and fishing (sorry if I offend hikers, campers, ATV's, etc). Now he has a good portion of both markets cornered. I think BP would be stupid to fool with that. Not like BPS can screw up the fishing tackle side of Cabela's. That is/was already a nightmare.

The Cabela's in Kansas City no longer impresses me.  I'm not a gun collector and no longer hunt so I can't speak to those areas but the fishing selection is nothing like it used to be.  Even the online catalog is lacking.  Many of the Falcon rods that are popular here on the forum are not available even online.  Simple stuff like the Cara T7 line.  Pretty much Lowrider or nothing.

I was there a few days ago looking to replenish some terminal tackle, i.e. swivels, snaps, o rings, etc. and the selection was Cabela's stuff and not much else.  A few Owner and even fewer Spro.  All the rest was house brand.

I know that Johnny's way smarter than I am so there's evidently lots of ways to make big money without offering the stuff that so many of us prefer.

I FIGURE HE WILL DO THE SAME THING HE HAS DONE TO HIS SPRINGFIELD STORE, TURN IT INTO TO TOURIST TRAP WALMART, HAVING  WOMENS UNDERWEAR, CROCS SANDLES IN 85 COLORS AND QUIT SELLING ALL THE STUFF THAT MADE HIM ALL THE MONEY HE NOW HAS TO WASTE. WHILE WE START SHOPPING AT TACKLE WAREHOUSE TO GET THE STUFF WE REALLY WANT. ANHEUSER BUSCH INBEV NOW OWNS MILLER BREWING, BASS PRO OWNS RANGER AND CABELAS, IS NOTHING SACRED ANYMORE.

Just received my order from tackle warehouse this afternoon!

Cabelas and Bass Pro aren't too much different in my book. They both sell brand names, plus their own products. It always seems when there's a sale, it's only the stores brand and not the manufacturers brand...or at least that's the way it seems as of late. E-Commerce will eventually bring them all down, to a certain extent. In the old days you could rely on the expertise of the guy behind the counter, but the informed consumer can use the internet to find out virtually all the information he needs to make the correct decision on-line.

Say Mitch, where is your go to for ecommerce? Tackle warehouse?

Yes, for the most part. That's for top water, cranks and jerk baits. I make all my soft plastics and jig heads. But I still like Denny Dennis store in Fenton. They seem to have a good grasp of what's hot in the fishing world.

What ever happened to free enterprise?? He owns about everything in the hunting & fishing & outdoor business, granted he doesn't sell all the top name brands, just most of them,  but where is the competition now. It appears we are all subjected  to the Elite in some way or another.
