I just realized that this is a "fake news" fishing report. Evidenced by the fact that people from Arkansas can't count beyond 10, or 20 perhaps, if they don't have any shoes on. So that is a max of 40 between to the two barefoot Razorbacks....so how on Earth could you arrive at 63?

Well I hate to give away one of Champ's secrets, but what champ does the day before he goes fishing, he'll head over to Hook, Line, and Sinker and pick up several bags of Zoom Centipedes, how many bags is dependent on how optimistic he is.  Centipedes come in a 20 pack BTW.

So he'll open up a bag and every time he or Donna catch a bass, he'll take out a centipede and throw it up on the bank.  He'll do that until he empties a bag, then he'll start on a new bag.  At the end of the day, he'll total up the number of empty bags, and count how many are left in a partially empty bag.

So in his case yesterday he had 3 empty bags and 17 left in the last bag he opened.

The final step is Champ will send a message to one of the math professors at U of A, giving him the totals as I showed above.  They can usually get at least a number that is in the ball park of what Champ & Donna caught.

Most of us Arkansans have some sort of system like that.

Oh, now I get it. Thanks for the explanation. I wondered how he could keep track. In the old days I had a partner who drank a beer every time we caught a fish and at the end of the day we counted cans. Now I eat a piece of candy each time I catch a fish and at the end of the day I count the candy rappers. Same concept. But whatever works.

Huh?!  Am I to far north to understand this? Is this like train A left the station at 1 p.m. and Bob launched his boat at 1:15 p.m. at what point will the pizza be delivered kind of problem?

Why doesn't he just buy a clicker -or use the one that he has for golf like us northern guys?

Mike - if you and your partner caught 63 fish and drank a beer for each one there is no way you could count.....heck you would just have to lay on the boat and take a nap!!

That is one fantastic day, kind of reminds me of several years ago when the BASS guys were here just about this time of year and they were totally wacking the LM on a wart from Campbell Point to Eagle Rock on the flat gravel.   Pretty much like James just posted you have to catch 10 to get a keep.  Do you all remember the weights.  I cannot ever remember seeing so many 5 fish limits weighing from 9 to 12 pounds.

That was the year that someone caught such a huge amount on the wobble head.

I fished from Old 86 up Long Creek and turned around and fished up to Spring Branch.  My partner had 2 keeps, I had 2 keeps and we only had 2 short fish.  The K's are just not up down here yet.  I have only caught a couple on the points, not counting deep fish in the 60 plus ft. range.  Most of us that fished Baxter down toward the dam yesterday really struggled.

That upper White River just seems to get them hopping quick.

Great report and Super trip.

I used to think that, until I got into guiding corporate guide trips.

On another note, I had 2 People on Taney this morning and they caught and released right at 100 in a 4 hr. trip.  My last several trips over there we have caught and released close to 500 rainbows, and 1 brown.

Size is very marginal with schools of 10 to 11 inch trout swimming everywhere over there.  We saw schools with what looked like 50 fish swimming per school.  Its kind of like a jail break on Taney right now.
