How does one go about documenting the 360 days of on water experience?

More importantly, (if it really is even important) how is it verified?

Appears to me they might be more interested in justifying the "tuition" by establishing a bunch of arbitrary numbers more than anything else.

But then again I'm a former bureaucrat so I'm inherently suspicious of all of this sort of stuff.

Although that's only because I used to get paid to come up with crap ideas and then write policies and requirements that were supposed to make the crap ideas appear legitimate.

I think there needs to be some study and testing completed before participating in these "sanctioned" tournaments.   I think there might be a bunch of unlicensed, rogue, fly-by-night Pro's out there.

I got the package deal , license came included with the pro style jersey. :)

what if any is the requirements for A (so called 'guide')  on Bull, Table Rock or Norfork some guy just put cards out that he is a "Licensed"  Guide

I saw those too. Can't recall ever seeing that "guide" cash any checks in Bass-o-thon, or any of the other serious local derbies, or even heard his name before in the dock talk as being a good stick.

I'm not at all convinced he knows anything worth paying money for. His advertised rate seems cheap too... Shame that folks feel like they have to buy their way into a business by undercutting the established guys.

Not a fair deal, IMHO.

Whoa now, there have been and will always be VERY good fishermen that don't want to fish tournaments AND I'm not sure dock talk means a whole lot. Guy might not hang with thiose guys.

I would have Thought that a reduced rate for the first couple years was a reasonable idea to built a repeat customer base that a nd some version of no fish No pay guarantee

As one who is working to start my own guide service, I would disagree with any kind of reduced rate. I believe you should charge the going rate and build your business and reputation by putting people on fish and not by catering to the "anything to save a buck" crowd. That way, you cultivate a relationship with the other area guides and can then hope to get overspill/corporate group business from them.

Besides, from personal experience years ago, these clients who are price shopping are generally a major pain in the butt and rarely consider tipping.

Just my 2 cents worth.

Kind of like trying to get a house painted cheap - you get what you pay for.

And that goes for the painter just about as much as the home owner.

Cheapskates ain't much fun to work for.
