IL Fisherman Posted December 29, 2017 Posted December 29, 2017 Ok. We have ice on the ponds here in Illinois and I don’t ice fish. I was curious what everyone’s temperature limit is for venturing out on the lake. I’m around 45 degrees or higher. What’s yours. magicwormman 1
Basfis Posted December 29, 2017 Posted December 29, 2017 As long as it gets above freezing during the day and there’s a good reason, I’m up for it. I’m out if there is no chance of nature melting the ice in my guides. Royal Blue and Mitch f 2
Sore Thumbs Posted December 29, 2017 Posted December 29, 2017 Under 20 is my limit. Had every intention of fishing Sunday. Fortunately they cancelled the tournament due to cold temperatures.
bluebasser86 Posted December 29, 2017 Posted December 29, 2017 I'm fine at around 20 provided the wind isn't bad. Sometimes my guides ice up so fast I get tired of dealing with it though.
tjm Posted December 29, 2017 Posted December 29, 2017 "Put another log on the fire". I ain't as tough as I once was, sunny, 45+ and no dang wind; you might get me fired up for fishin; but the days of wipin snow off my beard and plunging the rod under the water to melt the ice is long past. vernon, Daryk Campbell Sr, Chief Grey Bear and 3 others 6
Quillback Posted December 29, 2017 Posted December 29, 2017 Has to be above freezing for me. snagged in outlet 3 and Mitch f 2
Dutch Posted December 29, 2017 Posted December 29, 2017 I tend to do the above freezing unless I am on a good pattern. I went once at -5°. That was a big mistake. I nearly caught my Ranger on fire trying to thaw out the steering. Sore Thumbs 1
MOPanfisher Posted December 29, 2017 Posted December 29, 2017 Dutch, I think I remember you telling me that story once, or at least someone told me a very similar one about building a small fire to thaw out their steering. I have never been, and never will be that tough or dedicated.!! terryj1024 1
Johnsfolly Posted December 29, 2017 Posted December 29, 2017 It was 13 deg one of the mornings down on the White and we were not going to stay in the lodge when there were trout to catch☺.
Champ188 Posted December 29, 2017 Posted December 29, 2017 Count me in the 20-degree threshold group with Sore Thumbs and bluebasser. I do love me some winter fishing. Sore Thumbs, dtrs5kprs, Royal Blue and 1 other 4
