Johnsfolly Posted July 17, 2019 Posted July 17, 2019 Every obsessive behavior that they describe in the article I possess😁.! I love the research, the attention to specific fish, the discernment to determine if its a new species, willingness to travel for a minnow, love of lists and goal setting..... And to think that at 163 species to date that I'm just getting started😁. Just on this trip back to MO I've caught three confirmed new species and a possible fourth and lost one other but thats a separate post in the making. dan hufferd, MoCarp, liphunter and 5 others 7 1

I believe the term is “Ate up”😆 i have a custom 5’ 2 weight bamboo fly rod with an antique hardy bantam reel and silk fly line I inherited from my dad. I don’t think it’s ever been wet. ColdWaterFshr Posted July 17, 2019 Posted July 17, 2019 I dig it. Family and friends all laughed at these monsters I recently boasted about . . . caught them a couple weeks ago inside of Smoky Mountain NP. But I was well pleased with myself, especially the southern appalachia brookie. That bow and arrow cast in these tight confines ain't as easy as it might seem. ness, Johnsfolly, BilletHead and 4 others 7

Congrats on a great looking brook trout caught under challenging conditions for sure! Overcoming the situations and the challenges that we put in front of us, to me that defines success! ness Posted July 17, 2019 Posted July 17, 2019 I did GSMNP a few years back. A couple night’s stay on our way to the coast. Was dealt heavy rains one day and high water the next. Managed a few rainbows but never got a brookie. And Michael Jackson died. BilletHead, ColdWaterFshr, Daryk Campbell Sr and 1 other 1 3 John
fishinwrench Posted July 18, 2019 Posted July 18, 2019 There's this physics thing about setting the hook on a fish so small that it takes more effort to penetrate his lips than the fish weighs. There has to be enough mass to the fish so that when you pop him it doesn't just flick him over your shoulder. How do you pull that off? Seems like it would be like trying to set the hook into a lady bug. You aren't gonna stick him.... you're just gonna flip him over.
Johnsfolly Posted July 18, 2019 Posted July 18, 2019 Actually you hit on one of the big frustrations of microfishing. Very often you pull the fish out of the water only to have it open its mouth and drop back into the stream. You may have taken 10 mins or more to find that fish, get the bait in front of it without spooking it, have it take the bait and then lose it at the hook set 😒. I'm convinced that madtoms are so aggressive in their strike that they clamp down on the hook and you can't get enough movement to set it. Then simply let go as you pull them up.
