N9BOW Posted May 5, 2020 Author Posted May 5, 2020 Some Epdimiology specifics (Protein Sub Units - Furin Cleavage)... Just an FYI - If you want to delve into the Virus and its study. jdmidwest Posted May 5, 2020 Posted May 5, 2020 Conversations from the weekend with a qualified MD on the front lines in an ER. Smokers seem to have a better chance than non smokers. Stumping the statistics on a respiratory disease on respiratory impaired persons. Homeless people are not dying by the thousands. Either they are better at social distancing, or environmentally conditioned. "Life has become immeasurably better since I have been forced to stop taking it seriously." — Hunter S. Thompson
ness Posted May 5, 2020 Posted May 5, 2020 I think I’ll pass on smoking and homelessness and just take my chances. N9BOW, Terrierman, BilletHead and 1 other 1 1 2 John

jdmidwest Posted May 5, 2020 Posted May 5, 2020 Interesting to see what this shakes out. Nicotine may work as an antiviral on this one. UV exposure may help the homeless, along with the social distancing. Nicotine has been used in medicinal ways since the Indians. top_dollar 1 "Life has become immeasurably better since I have been forced to stop taking it seriously." — Hunter S. Thompson

fishinwrench Posted May 5, 2020 Posted May 5, 2020 I told y'all awhile back that even though you'll never hear a "health professional" say it openly .... Marlboro's and whiskey, in reasonable moderation, was probably not a bad idea if trying to kill a germ before it gets too comfortable inside you. There probably isn't a single crackhead suffering from COVID19 either. But let's not get carried away. 🙄 snagged in outlet 3 1

Look at the folks that vape or take a nicotine patch to compare against those that smoke to see if it is nicotine. I believe that it's very likely that the tar inside of a smokers lungs makes it difficult for the virus to come in contact with actual cells. Just a thought.

I can handle being around smoke better now than I could when I was younger. My step mom would come pick me up from basketball practice after high school and I'd just about throw up when I'd get in her car from the strong smell of cigarettes. I'm just unable to comprehend how cigarettes can be even remotely appealing. I've smoked a few cigars and they at least had a sweet taste to them. The smoke part didn't do anything more. I'd have been just as content sucking on an unlit cigar.
