This kind of in a very strange but not so strange way reminds me of the USMC when I was still wet behind the ears.  Started out scared spitless, finally got a little bit used to it and in the end pretty well knew the drill, what would flush, what wouldn't and what to watch out for.  Sure this is different, but in some ways, the unknown finally becoming more or less routine but sill needing a fellow to be always careful, it's at least similar.  Thoughts?

It's the new normal as far as I am concerned.  Settle into a routine and deal with it.  Be cautious and courteous and take care of business....  I guess.

I’d say that’s a pretty good description!

Pure crap IMO. We all now there are educated people out there who are not too smart. More than likely this qualified MD on the front lines did some googling with the words cigarettes , whiskey and coronavirus and got a hit on OAF where our educated expert Fishinwrench suggested his theory!

So tell my Uncle and Cousin previous smokers that were too dumb or addicts to nicotine that now have COPD smoking is a good deal. When I take them fishing they have to stay in the boat until I pull them up the ramp because they cannot any longer walk up that ramp without stopping three or more times to catch their breath.

I never meant to condone smoking at all.  My qualified MD is abreast of the reports in the medical community.  He is like a brother to me, one of my closet friends.  One of the first to drop should have been the impaired lungs of a smoker like the normal flu kills them.  But Covid is not attacking them and killing them.

Covid seems to do something different than a normal flu.  Something in the cigarettes has an effect on its cycle it appears.  Not suggesting in any way to take up smoking to prevent the contraction of the virus.  Wash your hands, keep away from sick people, and you should be fine.

Smoking kills in so many ways, I have never been one and have fought having to work with ones that did.  It started when I was a kid and had severe ear infections.  I suffered thru allergy tests for a whole week at 8 and shots until I was 13, Dad quit smoking when I was put in for testing.  He is still alive today and has led a pretty good life as a quit smoker.

Look at how the information has evolved. We’re learning every day. We’re going to learn more. We’re only a few months into this.

Saw a story yesterday regarding HIV/AIDS It was 2 years before we even knew it was a virus. 6 years before a treatment was developed. Not being a doomsdayer biut we are just beginning this process.

1984 Path Microbiology classes and Immunology barely knew what AIDS was.  I know, I was there taking Pre Med program classes.  It was thought to be something that was going to be a major issue.  Now we all realize, the first major symptom is a pain in the butt.  Avoid it and you will be fine and not get it.

Blood transfusions spread it as well.

On an individual basis that works fine.  It's pretty much how I'm dealing with it...getting into the routine of being very careful and avoiding other people I don't know as much as possible.  But on a societal basis, it's gonna suck for a long time.  When will it again be anywhere near safe to have events with large numbers of people?  Cardinal ball games with one person per every 5 seats every other row?  How well do you trust businesses like hotels to be diligent about cleaning between customers?

And as long as there are a lot of people NOT being careful, the rest of us are going to have to be extra careful, especially anyone as old as I am.  Routine is nice, but being routinely worried about this is hard on your mental (and physical) health.  I trust myself.  I trust my wife.  I somewhat trust some of my relatives.  I do NOT trust the general public nor a lot of businesses to be as careful as they need to be.

I'm concerned that this tourist community here is gonna be a hotbed.

People from the city's have started their summer vacations early, and all the businesses are chomping at the bit to get the money.  There's very little SD going on here now.

Everyone started off being careful, keeping to themselves and really doing things right.... but that has all worn off now.   Only a very few locals are still practicing SD.   And the local news outlets that were giving updates 2-3 times a day from area clinics and hospitals have now quit reporting on positive case numbers entirely.

So I'm not sure what to think anymore.
