Johnsfolly Posted May 13, 2020 Posted May 13, 2020 Folks around here wear their masks no questions asked. They wear them at the stores, at work, in the car by themselves, at home alone.. In fact some folks have begun complaining that they just don't sleep well wearing their masks. Many folks have solved the issues with breathing by cutting a hole for their nose and mouth. Much better. Now they can breathe well and stay safe 🤔 Terrierman and tjm 1 1

Masks also keep nasty stuff that comes out of my nose and mouth from getting on other people. Win win. So you don't think there's any merit to the theory that we need to be exposed to germs in order to keep our immune systems tuned up? It may just be the ignorant hillbilly in me.... but that just makes sense. A certain number of tick/mosquito/chigger bites just seems to keep a fella balanced. The feeling of being so vulnerable to everything around me would make me uneasy as hell. I'd almost rather live a shorter life if I had to go around fretting about that all the time.
Quillback Posted May 13, 2020 Posted May 13, 2020 There was a study done in Europe somewhere (I saw it on PBS so it has to be true!), that farm kids had better immune systems and were less likely to develop allergies than city kids living in 'clean' conditions. I believe that to be true myself. However I will do what I can to try and not get Covid. Not that I am fretting about it, but don't want to catch it to see how well my immune system reacts. liphunter and Terrierman 2

Protective of yourself and others. How did the mask become the political symbol it appears to be, at least in some circles. It's not a sign of weakness, oppression or fear. Why won't the state and federal leaders model a behavior that is protective of the public health? I honestly do not get it. I carry a gun, if I wear a mask I may be mistaken for a bad guy........ Growing up on a full fledged, self sufficient farm, I went thru extensive allergy testing at age 8 and shots till I was 15. But Dad was a smoker and I really blame all of that on him. Had the smoke not invaded my young lungs, I probably would have not suffered my youth. He quit when the Allergist at LeBonheur in Memphis suggested that some of that smoking may be part of it. I will never know if it was the cause or the extensive shots I took that cured me. But smoke still kills me, I tend to avoid it whenever possible. I've read on multiple sites from multiple sources that in the end, it's expected that 60% to 70% of the population will get the covid. I'm doing my best to be part of the 30% to 40% that doesn't. I'm a contender. On a slightly related note, I had a horrible dream last night. In the dream, we (humankind) learned that one currently unknown effect of the disease is sterility. I woke with the sense that this is our asteroid moment and in a few million years the evidence of our mysterious disappearance will be argued at length.

tjm Posted May 14, 2020 Posted May 14, 2020 I would wear an N95 if they were readily available and affordable, or N99, but if you want protection from my spit stay back about 10' cause I can keep my digits outa my mouth without the bandana.
