I generally ask Santa (wife) for fishing stuff or power tools for Christmas.  This year I’m looking for a sensitive spinning rod and am asking for advice from my friends at OAF.  I’m thinking a 7ft lure weight of ¼ - ½ oz.  I favor Falcon, St. Croix, and Lews.  I’m kinda thinking St. Croix Premier as I have a 6 ft Premier spinning rod that feels pretty sensitive to me.  I do have a heavy Cara casting rod that I know is sensitive and a couple of higher end Lews that I’m not sure are all that sensitive.

The criteria here is very very sensitive.  What would you recommend?

Thanks

Bobby I have 2 of the remaining T7 Cara Squirrel Tails. They are just what your looking for but they are used, but in great shape.   Don't have any new ones but I am getting ready to order. Don't know when an order placed now will arrive.

Used ones are $150.00 each or both for. $275.00. I also have  used CS-4-169 T7 Cara Spinning. Same price. IMG_4104.jpg

I’d recommend going to a custom rod builder.  Tell him exactly what you are looking for and have him build you one exactly the way you want it.  That’s what I did last time.  The guy even wanted the reel so he could get the balance like I wanted.  I don’t think I will ever buy another rod off the shelf.

For what it's worth on Mr. Babler's recommendation I purchased two of the Squirrel Tails several years ago and they are my all time favorite spinning rods.  I use them primarily for Ned fishing but they work great for lightweight jigs and worms and even for drop shotting although I don't do a lot of that.

I've found them to be really good for smaller jerk baits too.

Regardless, in my opinion it'd be way more better than a cordless drill for pretty much any kind of fishing!

Either way Merry Christmas!

I'd hop all over one of those Squirrel Tails. Heck, even if it ended up not doing what you wanted (and I can't imagine that), you could get your money back out of it.

Every post is dead on perfect. However, I favor Dutch's post. Find a custom builder who is more than a thread winder and explain carefully what you want and what you intend to hang on the rod. You won't get a cheap rod, but you will have the equivalent of a rod twice the price and suited to your wants.

I've got some St Croix spinnings rods.  They are excellent, and very sensitive.  You can feel the rejection when a fish swims by.  😄

FishnDave, I’ve got 2 of those same rods.

In the St. Croix offerings, I've owned a 7-foot Avid, medium action, fast tip for a long time and have been very fond of it as a shaky head/Ned/dropshot rod.

AVS70MF is the model number.
