On April 28, 29, and 30 we did our annual spring fishing trip. Thursday the 28th was awesome with a little bit of drizzling rain and low skies the bite was on. In four hours we were able to catch enough fish for our Friday night fish fry. Friday early was also awesome. We had a slug fest on the Kentuckies with the ned rig. (Love those bright red eyes.) When the sun came out and it got hot the fishing got tough. We still picked up a few but the wind made it hard to stay on them. Saturday, same thing. Early, while it was cloudy, they bit pretty good. When the sun got up high and bright the bites were few and far between. We still caught lots of bass, crappie, and white bass. Everybody caught fish and had a ball. We had several bass that were just keeper sized, 5 or 6 in the 3 pound range and one five pounder. The 15" - 17" fish make awesome fillets. Looking forward to the October trip up to Stockton now..... can't wait.

Photos of bass with stringers thru their gills ... awesome. Lots of other fish out there to catch and eat --- ones that aren't as highly pressured and are supplementally stocked. Yes, it's legal, but a lot of us feel that it's irresponsible, especially during the spawn.

Just my 2 cents' worth.

Was kinda wondering how long it was gonna go by without being said. I saw it also but it wasnt my place to say. Just funny that if 1 tournament bass is floating at the end of a day it is DEATH to ALL things tournament and those who do it, all within an hour. This went 7 days!!  While many out the are extremely diligent of they're fish. Yes they are displaced at times but the irresponsible cause blame to everyone. I for one keep crappie and walleye to eat but for me that is what I like. To each their own!

What makes bass so special? They're game & a tasty source of protein. Do the tournament guys get to hog 'em all for their entertainment, while the plebes are told not to eat the "special" fish? I don't get it. Biology, food chain, all that, I understand, but harumphing because someone had the temerity to harvest your precious is beyond me.

I dont mind either way or the other. I was only stating how it was funny that nobody bashed it like they do other guys.  If I thought they tasted any good I'd do it too. But when I catch enough crappie and walleye to eat I dont have the need to keep them. That's also why I said to each his own bc they 100% have that right to eat whatever they catch if they so choose.

We practice catch and release 99.9% of the time. I kinda grimaced myself when I saw that rope stringer through the gills. He's a green horn. I am trying to teach them proper fishing etiquette too but it takes time.  Keep in mind we had 15 guys we planned to feed on Friday night at our fish fry so we keep everything legal to keep until we have enough to get the job done. I have caught and released, unharmed,  tens of thousands of fish over the last 62 years..... I have done my fair share of resource conservation. Point taken though on the criticism....

This is just my opinion. Ignore it if you wish. The regulations set a keep limit by size and number. So long as someone or some group abide by that regulation, none of us should judge.Yes, some regulations are absurd. Some are too restrictive. Some are not restrictive enough. None the less, those who play by the rules should be bullet proof and not criticized.

I have been catch and release on bass for years. I do so because they are not that good to eat. I keep legal walleye. I throw back trout. Unless they are cold smoked, they taste like dirt. My palate is not yours. My attitude is not yours.

BTW, if you think bass protectors are bad, visit the walleye boards where size ninjas happily rip the intestines out of those who keep sizes they feel are wrong.
