I would like to add that so many fisherman of the other sites spend too much time on "hey watch me, I'm the greatest (angler/tyer) on the creek and I catch way bigger fish than the rest of ya'll because I'm that good, and have you seen my gear? well it's the highest price on the market , yada yada"

One of the things that Rick (Laker67) so admired about this site is the honest humility, good humor, and comraderie.  And if sportsmanship was overlooked, he'd be the first to chime in :)  God I miss him!

I agree... Instagram Bob  and his hero pose trout picks with the same fish switched around for both sides. Social media blah

I've seen some of that on IG, and I'm torn... If somebody gets new gear, it's fair to give an appraisal of it.  That might help somebody else that is looking for new gear.  Other times, it seems individuals either are, or are trying to be, brand reps for certain companies.  Its usually pretty obvious when they are doing that.  I don't care for it.  But I can't really blame someone for trying to monetize their social media in whatever way they can...to help fund the affliction we all share. :)

Don't want to sound cliche, but it ain't the rod that makes the man.  One of the best fly fishermen on the creek was geared up head to toe, rod and reel included, for under $300.

Hey everyone, I was on here years ago and had started my outdoor blog, then got distracted and here I am again. I can't believe my username and password were still valid. I'm planning to to fish more in 2024. My brother (joefish) and I will be down for striper fishing this spring/summer, walleye and bass too. Good to be back, looking forward to hearing some good stories.   Buck D

I'm a new member/former lurker. Been fishing since I was a kid, okay at it. Started spinning rod like most, buddies pulled me into fly fishing back in 16. This forum and public documentation are the best sources for looking up info on waters you're not familiar with. What brought me to join is I decided earlier I'd go after the slam. Waters I fish are BSC, Current, Mill and LP (and outside of Maremec Spring).  I've decided to go after BF and snippets here and there in many threads allowed me to profile where to go on the water, where I can park, etc so an okay fly guy can better his success. And the Slam is just an excuse to get out on new waters now that the last one is away at college. Also, with the heat we get here, I'm going to expand to Smallies since I seem to be good at getting them at one of the waters above. Many thanks to the long term posters here who shared those snippets here and there. It was a lot of work pulling them but that's probably better.

And long time user of forums. Started with JR Cigars forum back in the 90s, gunco.net after that. The discords are essentially forums. Other than twitter, no social platforms.

We look forward to hearing how you do with the slam.  Hard to believe the forum has been around for almost 20 years....  I remember when I started my first "forum", before OAF.  It was a basic text thread style board with no controls, no membership and very hard to delete posts.  I had all kinds of problems with a few people just wanting to cause trouble.
