Luckily my two girls dont fall into that generalization. They both went to college, worked as RAs in the dorm. Left college pretty much debt free. Both make more money than I ever dreamed about. They also volunteer at food banks.

Be proud!!

Not a biggie now to miss your rent payments. I mean what is she going to do kick her elderly dad out?

Why she thought it beneficial to finance something that I had already paid for.....and was going to end up being hers eventually.....I still don't understand.

But what's really cool is that when something needs fixed I can throw a fit and demand that she pays to have it fixed 😅  Not that it ever works out that way 🙄

I’ve heard of this business strategy before. Here’s a little more info on it.

Yep👍

There's a reason why Gravois Mills has no high level tycoon's anymore.  Those with many "holdings or assets" on record became targets for weird suits and seizures.   "Eagle nests" prevent expansions, and things like that.     While those who appear (on the books) to barely have a pot to piss in....or a window to throw it out of....are left alone to live in peace, and  Fire trucks, Sheriff's deputys, and ambulances actually show up immediately when called.

If Coconuts didn't have 5 separate "owners" an independent owner would have to retain a team of 7 lawyers to fight in court weekly, to avoid property seizure.   They'd just keep trumping-up lists of some BS violations & infractions and bleed him dry until the deed holder goes broke and finally surrenders.

This is the world we live in. 🤷‍♂️

CYA, or live with a hornswoggle target on your back.......OR drive a '76 Pinto with expired plates and live peacefully in a van down by the river.

And therein lies the reason we have so many "adults" out there who just don't get how things work in the real world of blood, sweat and tears. They've never had to figure out how to make things work with $2000 a month in income and $2500 in bills. The older generation immediately begins thinking, "I better get a part-time job for awhile." The younger generation just falls back on their entitled backsides and pressures family or friends to "be kind" and give them a hand. Not a blanket truth, but widespread enough to be a real societal problem in the works.

Some of y'all are so unoriginal.

"Our sires' age was worse than our grandsires'.
We, their sons, are more worthless than they;
so in our turn we shall give the world a progeny yet more corrupt."

Book III of Odes, Horace...20 BC

I have 3 successful adult kids and 1 HS Senior that's going to KU next year.  All were better kids in HS than their dad.  My youngest son's friend group is full of smart, polite, nice kids.

Yeah, they like to smoke a little weed, as it's readily available, but I don't see near the alcohol consumption that was rampant in my HS days.

Well, as for me, I’m not saying it’s the kids fault. It’s like the kid who takes over the dad’s business and ran it into the ground. Why?, because the dads spoiled them too much. The greatest generation wanted their kids to have what they never had…they should’ve given them what they did have…a little suffering to make them tougher. The United States is still the greatest country in the world but we have been resting on our laurels for too long. The 60’s hippies are now college professors teaching our kids their BS. It’s now coming back to haunt us.

Well we now have legal pot available for them to cope and stay stoned and happy in their safe space.

I could list multiple reasons why this is happening but the thread would get shut down in 2 seconds.

Gotta agree with you there, Mitch. And congrats Possum on doing a fine job of raising your girls. Yes, I did generalize for emphasis, and glad yours don't fit into the group of "gimme more, gimme more" types that are sitting waiting on YOU AND I to repay their student loans.
