Members BeginnersLuck Posted June 22, 2020 Members Posted June 22, 2020 I have not upgraded my electronics for way to long, and I just began to do a little research. Admittedly, I fish primarily shallow and have never seen the need to upgrade, but I would love to have some of the new mapping features. I am left speechless at the prices these companies are charging. I just bought a brand new 4k 75in Smart tv from best buy for $850. But some how a 12in graph is double the price.... Dont get me wrong I know there are cost involved, but double??!!! No chance it cost that! We are getting robbed! PS I know they can charge these prices because people will pay it, but come on help your weekend warrior out a little bit! What's the saying? The rich get richer. snagged in outlet 3 and Daryk Campbell Sr 2
Dutch Posted June 22, 2020 Posted June 22, 2020 A new sonar gps unit can do way more than a tv. Used units go for a lot less. Bass Boat Central and Bass Resource have listings all the time.
dblades Posted June 22, 2020 Posted June 22, 2020 $850 will get you a used GPS/si/di unit in a 9 inch size, probably a HDS Gen 3 on BBC. That's only three generations back from current offering. However I'm sure the markup on new units is substantial for the manufacturer's and for the dealers they have MAP pricing, so they get their cut.
Flysmallie Posted June 22, 2020 Posted June 22, 2020 You are paying for all the development not just the product. And it's rapidly changing technology. There are a lot more TVs sold and the tech has been there for awhile. The question is, is it worth it? That all depends on you. It would be a waste for me because that's not my style of fishing. ness Posted June 22, 2020 Posted June 22, 2020 Mount that 75 inch TV on your boat. It won't do squat, but you'll have the coolest LOOKING electronics on the lake. Be sure to bring along a spotter so you don't run into anything tjm, Johnsfolly, Mitch f and 4 others 2 5 John
Mitch f Posted June 23, 2020 Posted June 23, 2020 The problem is you need a 2-3.5 K tolling motor to go with it. The Garmin Force alone Is $3,200 "Honor is a man's gift to himself" Rob Roy McGregor

fishinwrench Posted June 23, 2020 Posted June 23, 2020 I've installed/upgraded alot of these systems. My favorite thing to do is wait 7-12 months and then ask the customer...."So, have you gotten familiar with your new sonar system yet?" Yeah, I love it ! The display and target separation is just awesome. "Cool. So are you catching more fish now then you were before?" Uh, well uh, hmmm.....No not really. 🤔 😅 Bassmeister, evilcatfish, magicwormman and 4 others 5 1 1

I looked at him and replied, “ the prop on my boat cost more than this set of clubs”. Daryk Campbell Sr 1
