Hate to speculate, but I have a feeling in addition to speed, a lot of folks are a bit too glued to their graph screens these days. It's an easy trap.

Castledine sums it up pretty well here. Couldn’t agree more.

Random thought as he steers toward the rocks at speed. I don't even know any cops, I just can't imagine anyone in full control of their faculties  not slowing/stopping when it looked plain that he was going ashore almost from the start of the clip.

That's not what actually happened. He didn't turn into the bank. Well, not intentionally anyway. He caught the wake of the boats ahead of him and it kicked his bow to the left . When the hull came back down it dug in and at that speed there was no way to correct and sealed his fate with the bank. He's probably lucky he kept it mashed down so he had enough juice to jump the bank and reenter the water. He is one lucky SOB. I'd love to see the bottom of that hull. The fact that it didn't immediately start sinking is astounding. Guess Ranger is still making great boats.

Wonder how much he wants for the "totaled" boat? I know a guy that has screen doors he installs on leaky/destroyed hulls. He seals them over with a magic paste and in 30 minutes could make that thing like new.

I don’t get how some can even see over or around them.

A high percentage of people should not be driving a boat.  They buy them and have no idea how to properly drive them.  As for the tourney racers most of them lose money so that race might be their only enjoyment.

The old 150hp rule was a really good rule. I never understood why they canned that.

That's the same guy???

Yeah, Aaron Britt. The video I posted is actually from his Youtube channel. I guess he's proud of it or something? I've had some rough boat rides from getting caught out in weather or staying out longer than I should have, I'd be willing to bet we all have, but that was just plain 'point the nose the direction I want to go and put the hammer down, consequences be darn', boat driving it looked like to me.

I've seen the slo-mo and although he was undeniably running too close to the bank, his beloved hydraulic steering system played a big part of that little hic-cup.   He attempted to correct.....but the cylinder didn't respond.

Wrench tip:.   If you run hydraulic steering..... always run the motor back and forth (lock to lock) before you take off, especially on cool mornings.   And if the steering wheel doesn't lock tight in both directions don't leave the ramp until you top off the fluid.
