Once again the creeper invasion has begun at lake Taneycomo. I first noticed it on Monday, and now by Thursday it is getting into full swing. They appear out of nowhere . They can show up either on the upstream or downstream side and sometimes even directly across the creek from you. Their common goal is to fish the exact same water that you are already fishing, at the exact same time. They make a cast and take a step towards you, remain there for a few minutes, and then repeat. Before you know it you are accidentally smacking them in the forehead with a seven foot rod. And finally you have to call them out. Most mumble a few cuss words and continue to do what they are doing . At that point I usually get tangled in their line or hook their boot on a drift or two. Have you ever got to watch a grown man try to remove a hook from his boot while standing in waist deep water?   So it goes at Missouri's newest trout park.

Has the guy with the camera tripod shown up with it sitting in the middle of the chute to video himself?

It really is combat fishing, which is not for me. I've fished the brown run three times over the last 15 years, and I really don't care to do it again.

Rick and I and probably several others on the "forum" know a guy who does that with the tripod and videoing. Saw this guy with it setup and was also wearing a "GoPro" on his hat. Ke caught a nice fish and then asked if I would take a picture of him and the fish on his cellphone. Stay after the Rick.

One of my old flyfishing buds used to start softly talking to himself (saying really insane $#!t) when folks got too close.   Talking just loudly enough that they could understand it.

It creeped them out, and they'd slowly and quietly move away.   Worked every time.  He didn't have to worry about them coming back either.

He'd start mumbling about strangling his neighbors cat, shoving Hot Wheels in his dogs butt, or ripping his mailman's arm off and beating him over the head with it.....stuff like that.  😅

Try it, it works!
