  1. There's a good reason why folks in this region eliminated all the bears, and we've been perfectly happy ever since we did. πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ If we could effectively eliminate ticks & chiggers would there be some group of idiots wanting them "re-established" someday ? Probably πŸ™„
  2. One just passing by occasionally isn't such a big deal..... but one repeatedly going around in circles stirring up a whole creek arm for hours can be annoying as hell. Regardless of what I'm doing I've always tried to avoid disrupting anyone else for more than a few seconds.
  3. NGK's are correct for the Mercs. 6000 RPM is what Mercury recommends..... because their hole shot is typically lacking......(and ONLY because of that)...But I prop for 5500 if the hole shot is good. 6000 is SCREAMING and I'd rather not hear my motor wind up that tight.
  4. My first two were a breeze, they did great, but this current one has "a thing' with being taught to do anything...... she's one of those Learn On My Own types. And I'm like....How many cars, and lives, are you willing to waste before you get it right ? No !!!
  5. I got a smoking hot deal on a Xi5 about 9 months before MG started going tits up. I liked it ok, but it kept getting pings from home security systems in my area....and basically took on a life of its own. Luckily I sold the boat that it was on before I had to scrap it.
  6. My youngest just got her driver's license. The "inspector" has determined that she's perfectly okay to drive..... But guess who has determined that she ISN'T ? Yep that'd be me ! At least one of us has some Β£βœ“β‚¬Β₯ing brains..πŸ™„. And thankfully it's the one who has control of the keys. You're welcome πŸ‘
  7. Dude, throw a tarp over the boat, and put a couple pie tins full of moth balls under there. They'll evacuate. It's how boat storage places keep the mice/birds/ect. from taking over.
  8. What a pretty fish! πŸ€— What color hackle is on that purple CB ?
  9. The Achilles heel of the Optimax is the air compressor. And it isn't a matter of whether it will fail or not ... It's a matter of when. And when it does..... it's a matter of how much shrapnel it deposits into the lines, and intake system. Sometimes you can just replace the compressor, tracker valve, and clean out the rails, and you're good to go for awhile. Other times you can do all that and STILL blow the powerhead within 10-15 hours of a compressor failure. Never EVER buy an Optimax that just recently had a compressor replaced !!!! Unless you are getting it at a drastically reduced price.
  10. Personally I don't like any additives, and I'll tell ya why..... When tuning a carbureted engine where idle mixtures are adjusted, and there are additives in the fuel, it always takes 3/4 turn (or more) to make any difference. But I can hook up a remote tank with fresh fuel.....and suddenly 1/4 turn (or less) makes a difference. What does THAT tell you ? IMO the best recipe to feed your outboard is FRESH fuel. Nothing else. Plus, I've torn down hundreds of motors, including plenty where the owners used additives religiously, and there's never been a nickels worth of difference in the amount of carbon buildup, ect.
  11. This is your recommended oil. As for fuel.... Regular 87% octane....as FRESH as you can get it. Try to keep it less than 3 months old.
  12. I'll probably never understand the desire to hook and hold little wild fish. They are pretty little things but I don't need to strip them in and grab ahold of them in order to appreciate them. IMO those tiny streams with nothing over 10" in them should just be looked at and left alone. Unless you are on the verge of starvation πŸ˜… We ate some little 8"-9" brookie's from the upper Chattahoochee once.....and they truly were delicious πŸ˜‹
  13. Truly WILD TROUT can be really spooky when people are wading.....or even when birds fly over.... but aside from that they are usually very easy to catch. Hatchery fish don't freak out over wading anglers.....but they DO more often require more precise casting and better drifts. In my experience the only thing challenging about "wild trout" is staying hid from them.
