Find early and redirect https://www.rd.com/advice/parenting/stop-bullying-strategy/ It is a sweet little story. But in reality I can remember my days in school, and the results in Science class would have showed totally different patterns than the results in Math class. Earlier than that, when we all spent the whole day in the same classroom with the same teacher, there was no "wondering" who was the goofball/freak/weirdo that nobody wanted anything to do with. It was blatently obvious, no NASA level psychology degree needed to figure that out. And as I think back, yes, it carried on from gradeschool all the way through high school. A few quit as soon as they hit 16 but none ever did anything destructive to the masses, but one did put the vice principal in the ER for a day. He deserved it though, the kid showed up at school with an ear ring and the VP attacked him in the hall and almost ripped his ear off. That was a bit excessive and uncalled for. The kid ended up in prison for arson before he was 25, but is now a business owner (concrete construction) and is a fairly productive member of society. If I needed concrete work done I wouldn't hesitate to call him. The other "outcasts" that I can remember (except for one) all found their happy place as soon as they got a job and could afford their first Harley. The other huffed some Pam cooking spray and didn't make it out alive.
jdmidwest Posted February 18, 2018 Posted February 18, 2018 Being the smallest kid in my class, I was the object of many a torture. I would fit in a locker. They proved it a few times. But I never let that stop me, nor did I once carry a gun to school to do anything about it. I carried a pocket knife daily to school, but never harmed a person with it. I was also the smartest in my class, so I did not run into many bullies in Chemistry, Trigg, and Pre Calc. But when I did, I would think things thru and usually come up with some sort of revenge. I could dish it out pretty good for my size and learned a few tricks. When I got to college, there were those clicks too. Since I could pass a test without much effort, I had plenty of time to do other things. Now, that is outlawed too. They call it hazing. But I never considered shooting anyone because I was being "picked on". There are no emotional scars. But all of my best friends are the ones I have made since College. I hardly ever see any of my old classmates. I never worried about getting shot while I was in school. And that was a time when most of the parking lot had guns in the vehicles for hunting before and after school. tho1mas 1 "Life has become immeasurably better since I have been forced to stop taking it seriously." — Hunter S. My guess would be that roughly 40% of teachers in this country would take the training to able themselves to carry within the schools, but i would take that verses the current situation any day. There are faculty that carry now without anyone knowing, just so they are prepared incase of a situation. I would lose my job any day compated to losing my or a kids life, by taking that chance. Having been involved in a law enforcement capacity within schools teaching kids, and chatting with many teachers, most would feel alot safer knowing Mr. Jones next door is trained and prepared to handle little Tommy or Tommys dad if either came into the school to cause havic. Why not just keep ALL doors locked during hours, and if a parent needs to come, they go into a seperate area where the kids would come to them, without going into the school. Same as having kids go thru detectors before entering like some of the big cities do. If a student comes late or leaves early, they go thru detection, the seperate area before entering the school. I attended a school where you had to go through metal detectors. It's no exaggration to say they were ineffiient. My children now go to a school where I have to wait in a room that is locked from me being able to proceed into the school, when I pick them up. So I feel more secure? No, not really. Many reasons have been stated here, but the one I believe makes the difference is consequences. There are none. Anyone can do practically anything they want, with very little or no consequences. Let's quit trying to make new laws, and make jail a place no one wants to return to. The laws are clear, the consequences have been deleted. Criminals give up there rights when they commit the crimes to their victims. Capitol punishment needs to be swift and available for public viewing (if you don't want to see it, don't watch it). Bring back some humility to the person who decides to commit crimes. Don't hide them, and their crime, make it known. But, do you think that maybe some people (children and adults) have become desensitized to the reality of gun violence and death? I see some of the very realistic first person shooter video games and have to wonder if it dehumanizes the experience? That goes for the modern crop of movies too. Yes, I know most people understand the difference between reality and a game or video but for some it may not be so clear. For example, I have a very good friend that thought when you shoot someone with a large caliber handgun the person would be lifted off the ground and thrown through the air like it shows in the movies. I had to explain the physics to him that it just doesn't work that way. I think our entertainment industry (games & videos) and 24/7 media coverage may be partly at fault of warping the reality of the consequences some folks actions. Video games make have a part in it and while violent movies may too, there have been violent movies around since the 50’s and 60’s with westerns and gangster movies. Seth Posted February 18, 2018 Posted February 18, 2018 You still have to be messed up mentally to take any games serious. Me and many of my friends grew up playing Mortal Kombat and many others games that involved killing, drugs, etc since probably 8 years old. We are all 31-32 now and turned out just fine.

None had an a orange tip to show they were fake and none of us got shot by the police . And get this I was doing this in the liberal state of California. We used bb guns, sling shots and pea shooters. In 1974 I took a 110 buck folder to school and the shop teacher used the engraver to put my name on the brass. Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted February 18, 2018 Root Admin Posted February 18, 2018 My neighbor had 2 nice maples trees in their front yard about 20 feet apart. I got the bright idea to make a very long rubber band, secure each end to each tree, made gigantic spit wads and shot them at cars going by - at night of course. I only did it one night... I got caught. JestersHK, Deadstream, Terrierman and 2 others 2 3
