Ketchup Posted April 9, 2018 Posted April 9, 2018 Good info TR. This subject gets alot of us excited, no matter which side your on. We all have our own ideas "mostly without any data to back it up" so until any of you, or others out there show me that placing fish in a livewell, providing everything they need while in there, then placing them in a weigh bag, placed into a weigh basket, then released back into the water is bad, or heck any worse than ANY other type of fishing, then i will continue to operate the way i have for years, without ever being sad about those poor little fish. Some of you sound like these fish have no chance at all once placed into a livewell. Like i said before, alot better chance of survival with me catching them in a tournament than a guy skinning their sides. Wart 57 and Hunter91 2 TinBoats BassClub. An aluminum only bass club. But is it better than releasing it right away at the same location? vernon and skeeter 1 1

A guy skinning their sides can only do it twice before he eats a bunch of fish, because we have possession limits. The same guy can relocate hundreds of bass per week if he fishes alot. Bass are home-range critters. If left alone or caught and immediately released a bass will live Its entire life out within 2-5 square miles. Therefore areas of the lake that don't host a plethora of tournaments (like MY area of the lake) get noticably depleted of keeper fish. You show me a tracked bass that was taken from the Gravois to PB2 and made its way back to the Gravois and I'll buy you a boat. vernon, MoCarp, skeeter and 2 others 4 1

I typed a long and polite/reasonable letter, that included that question, and sent it to 3 different MDC folks, and got NO REPLY WHATSOEVER. I could have asked about anything else and gotten a reply within 2 days. ANYTHING! We can talk about dandelions, freckled farting frogs, or barnyard butcher bats, and gotten immediate response. But we can't discuss possible negatives of excessive tournament fishing. I agree. And the solution is easy but messes up the fun at the big weigh in. Poor excuse if you ask me. evilcatfish, Champ188 and magicwormman 3

Catch fish and release them at various distances to see how far they go and how fast. Lots of technical issues to work through but would be a lot of fun too, and work. Champ188 1

The elephant in the room is that tournaments aren’t going to change as long as adrenaline and testosterone are the driving forces. Most derby fishermen talk a good game about conservation right up to the point where they’re asked to change their ways, and then they deny any culpability whatsoever. Truth is, the fish are just game pieces ... at present, no one is willing to give up derbies and traditional weigh-ins no matter how many bass it costs all of us. Gavin Posted April 10, 2018 Posted April 10, 2018 Tourney folks love their weigh ins. If you could shift their focus to length or numbers you might see change. Think lots of folks would like to see tourneys banned outright. Will probably see it happen in the next 20yrs unless they change there ways to a better scoring system. Champ188 1

Long creek area or do they go up more to the Dam area???? Why would one even ask this question? Are you seriously trying to chase down the retreads from the derby? Seems pretty desperate to me, especially for a former guide.

Not saying its better, but is it any worse? Without facts an answer means nothing to me. I get you anti-tourney guys stance. Freedom is a wonderful gift we have all been given. I keep reading about tourney guys only high is adrenaline and weigh-ins. Man thats so generic that its laughable. Have you fished in a bass tournament? If no then you dont have experience to even be offering your input here, so go join Mocarp in his section. If so, then obviously you kept getting your tail handed to ya, got tired of donating your hard earned mony to the guy next to you, that left you with a sour taste, so here you are, offering your reasons why your anti. And if you have enjoyed the great memories of what tournament fishing brings, and feel the. way you do, then please share what made you quit. It wont be that you simply got tired of seeing fish transported, so dont even come at me with that garbage line. TinBoats BassClub. An aluminum only bass club. If interested in info send me a PM.
