Felt like the right thing to do at the time.

Ouch!   That sentence is usually spoken from someone with regrets.    😢

Sorry 🤷‍♂️   I love ya man.

I follow a few forums and none of them has the nonsense this one does. It’s not heavy-handed daily moderation that keeps things in check on those, it’s an acceptance by the members of some basic rules, respect for others, and an understanding and acceptance of what’s good for the group as a whole. Common sense stuff, really.

This won’t be popular, but in my opinion the moderation here is weak, because it tolerates the junk here. The three things that are stated no-no’s: politics, religion and language come up almost every single day here. Personal attacks are tolerated. Members have called others liars. It’s not always blatant, but it’s always here. Things are allowed here that other successful forums simply don’t. Not just through tough moderation, but also through the group’s intolerance of it.

Moderation isn’t censorship. It’s keeping the peace.

It’s a shame what this place has become. It used to have real camaraderie, a wide range of interesting topics, and … even more fishing reports. But the BS just drowns out the good things, often creates animosity among us, and drives people away.

This really could be a better place with some effort. Better that the Facebook crap. Or it can go down the tubes like most forums have.

Now I’m off to cook some ~~ shrimp and grits, god darn it!

Ness, we've got to make judgement calls sometimes on what is acceptable and not everyone is going to agree with us.  There's lots of gray area and I would say that we will err on the side of being "easy" rather than being harsh.

Bad language posts will get whacked, and don't talk politics.  I don't think there is a restriction on talking about religion - but religion is certainly a topic that sometimes generates some strong replies, some of which can get personal.

I have not seen very many personal attacks lately, I think in that department we're doing a lot better than we were in the past.

Grits - Now that is a topic that needs to be banned!  I hate grits.  In Army basic training, I ate everything, I was hungry the whole time, the only thing I would not eat were grits.

I'll  be honest that only this morning have I read through most of the posts on this thread. I had a feeling where this could go and basically avoided it for a few days. However, I have now looked at a lot of the comments made and it makes me think of why folks have children. Over the years you hear of people saying that they would never bring a child into such a bad world. I have always felt that is the point of having children in order to make positive changes. Influence your children to treat people better or to try and make little differences with their lives.

I feel the same way about contributing to this forum. If you felt any connection with this forum or people in it but don't like the negative posts or feedback then post more uplifting content. Lurkers contribute little. Make it better by being committed to it.

I post a lot of off fishing topic materials either because it is an interest of mine or it's  a dad joke that may only be funny to me (and possibly @Daryk Campbell Sr😉).

I don't do a lot of bass or trout fishing much anymore or fish that much in Missouri. However, I still post a lot of trip reports that deal with various species. I hope that they are interesting for folks. I get grief for catching bait with my microfishing. I still post that content anyways since it is my interests and maybe folks on here have never heard about or seen some those species. Even though not as popular as other fishing or I didn't catch it with a flyrod, I feel that it is a positive contribution to this forum.

Oh and I am also not a big fan of grits unless it is shrimp and grits.

You’ve just never had them cooked right😀

I never had them until I was an adult. My dad had to eat them every morning when he was in military school and he hated them.

I get that.

I don’t think you need to be harsh to be effective. How about, ‘Hey guys, let’s not let this one go off the rails’ before it does? Or, ‘Careful here or I’ll axe the thread.’

Are you scared of the anti-censorship thugs?😀

OK, I will take that into consideration.

I try to most of my reasoning behind the scenes.  I learned a long time ago, a rebuke from me is taken much harder than anyone else.  Although I have been guilty of my own rules, ie, a few weeks ago with Wrench.  I overstepped and let me emotions get the best of me.

We're not perfect, but we're trying.

So this one -

This has to do with fishing, but not really.  It definitely has the chance to go south because it could drift into politics - probably will.  So should I just delete it before it goes south?  No I won't.

Why should you delete a thread about a dude’s boat slip and boat getting broken into ???? Yeah it has a lot more to do with fishing than most of the goofy stuff on here.Saying it has the potential to go off the rails and you may have to delete it is jumping the gun a little lol

I’ll be out on the water….fishing

Well said.  The good news is,  spring is here. Get you license if you haven't.  This one started later than usual for the winter time grumbling.

For the record, I like grits, smalliebigs and wrench, along with all of our moderators.

I do appreciate what you and the mods do, and I think I've let all of you know that before too. I suspect the vast majority of us do.

I suppose I ought to use the 'follow' function more for subforums/topics I like, and quit reading the noise because I end up grumpy too often.

Now, where's the post where you went off on wrench? I must have missed it, and it would probably cheer me up :D
