top_dollar Posted May 14, 2022 Posted May 14, 2022 22 hours ago, Bill Babler said: Here is basically the deal. Steve is a great poster and everyone here knows he at times consumes some bass. His legal right by far. The question here is for the most part why post pictures or tell about it here on a board that is 99.9% catch and release. Does Steve know this? Maybe a moderator needs to make a note before every post letting everyone know not to post a picture or allude to the fact that one may be killing a bass. 22 hours ago, Bill Babler said: This has absolutely nothing to do with tournament fishing, nothing. Agreed. 22 hours ago, Bill Babler said: This lake however is pummeled by not only tournament fishermen but day to day pressure, with 99% of it directed to black bass. Meat fisherman have to hang trotlines for catfish, but catch and release anglers get to bass fish? Catfish are gross. Maybe the catch and release anglers should target other species too instead of bass. 22 hours ago, Bill Babler said: Most importantly let me reiterate here for those that don't know or for those that have forgotten. Table Rock lake is NOT STOCKED nor has been with black bass (One of Bo's greatest annoyances.) This has been litigated for years now...table Rock does not need supplemental stocking of bass anymore than it needs stocking of bluegill and crawdads. They are ubiquitous. 22 hours ago, Bill Babler said: Here is another point, you have a group of mature friends that appear to be able to afford a ham hock for their beans, why come to the lake and kill pre and spawning bass? Makes zero sense. I just don't understand it. Tradition, friendship, commeradery. They are legal, tasty, abundant, and easy to catch. You don't have to understand it. You're not involved and you're feelings on the matter are irrelevant. 22 hours ago, Bill Babler said: For cripes sakes if you just have to kill something put out a couple of trotlines and harvest some catfish. Completely underutilized resource. Trotlines are super boring. Bass are probably easier to catch and more abundant on rod and reel. You could say target bluegill though instead of bass for a fry. 22 hours ago, Bill Babler said: We love our posters here, but keep in mind you are on a board that practices catch and release on black bass. Volumes of information is provided here, for like in kind. If your observing the game laws it is your prerogative to do as you wish. Please don't post it here. There is no need to create controversy. If this is the case, it should to be clearly outlined on the table rock forum that there are special rules regarding posting. If you look at any other forum on Ozark anglers you'll see people with stringers of fish and nobody gets upset. (Except river smallmouth...but the same rule should apply in those forums) Phil Lilley, BilletHead, vernon and 2 others 3 2
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted May 14, 2022 Root Admin Posted May 14, 2022 There's no such rules in writing. Not going to happen either. Won't change anything anyhow. Tons of lurkers that will take into and go and catch and eat bass... and trout. Always been that way and always will. If you post keeping bass here or any other forum/social media you'll get criticized. At least here you won't be bullied. Gumboot, Quillback, vernon and 7 others 9 1

Phil We had a member on here years ago who posted a bunch and almost annoying so many posts. He was "criticized" to the point he left the forums. I met him personally and he was a nice guy and member. He was "Criticized" because he posted about taking young men and introducing them to bass fishing and he let them harvest a few. Personally I do not think taking legal fish should even be questioned period by anyone. I decided to look at the fishing prospectus for table rock lake put out by MDC. It says there are ample bass legal bass that can be harvested. If it is legal do it and enjoy it. fishinwrench, Terrierman, Daryk Campbell Sr and 5 others 7 1 "We have met the enemy and it is us", Pogo If you compete with your fellow anglers, you become their competitor, If you help them you become their friend" Lefty Kreh " Never display your knowledge, you only share it" Lefty Kreh "Eat more bass and there will be more room for walleye to grow!" aarchdale@coresleep.com Posted May 15, 2022 Posted May 15, 2022 Legal or not the fact is if you post about keeping bass on any social media outlet or on any forums just prepare to get hassled. Some people do it just to start arguments on facebook. The topic is pretty tired. McBasser and his buddies kept a few, lets move on. No one ever thanks him for his catch and release reports he posts throughout the year. IF anyone deserves to keep a few bass for dinner it is us guys that release 99% of the ones we catch rps, Terrierman, Daryk Campbell Sr and 4 others 7
fishinwrench Posted May 15, 2022 Posted May 15, 2022 I seldom keep a LM, SM, or KY bass, but if I did and someone started giving me hell about it, I'd send them right to the nearest tournament weigh-in. A single dedicated tournament angler does 10x the damage to the bass population than a whole family of catch & eaters. There's a study still going on right now in Oklahoma and Texas that proves it 100%.......and it is being purposely ignored. Johnsfolly, Terrierman, Daryk Campbell Sr and 5 others 7 1

Carl1969 Posted May 16, 2022 Posted May 16, 2022 I just don't understand the need for grown folks to criticize another's choices, particularly when those choices are well within the law & pertinent wildlife regs. I mean, c'mon. Game is a wonderful, tasty & nutritious resource & I'll begrudge no man for eating what he catches. nomolites, BilletHead, vernon and 3 others 6

Probably done by a bunch of biologists 😅. Seriously, @fishinwrench if you have details on the data from that study I would be interested in reading about it.
