Ham Posted January 7, 2021 Posted January 7, 2021 You can easily find each states Covid stats online. When Covid 19 was savaging NYC and we had yet to see a single case, I was skeptical. I think we are going to hit 80 deaths today. About 1/4 of out census is Covid and Covid patients require maximum effort and resources. It is not a hoax even though it was used as a political weapon. Like a cold for all of us and I'm 68 with a thirty year history of respiratory issues. We also have five frontline healthcare workers (nurses) in our immediate and extended family. None of them are getting the vaccine as they don't see the need nor do they trust it. Perhaps more telling is that quite a few of the physicians that they work with/for are also not going to get vaccinated for the same reasons. The KC Star keeps reporting horror stories of overwhelmed hospitals and even of patients and bodies stacked in hallways in Kansas City. Two of my nurse relatives work at KU and one at St. Lukes in KC and they say that nothing could be further from the truth. I hope that every single person that wants the vaccine is able to get it in a safe and timely manner. I, however, ain't one of them. My brother in law is a Dr at KU and he confirms what you say. There's not anywhere near what they are saying in the paper.

I don’t think induced immunity from a vaccine is better than natural immunity, but down the road you might want to consider a booster from a Covid vaccine. Have the “family” docs that are not getting the vaccine explained why ? No docs in the family only nurses. However, many of the doctors that they work for and with have told them that they are not getting vaccine as they don't believe it is necessary and also that they don't yet trust it to be proven safe. The simple math doesn't add up to me. I have a 99.5% (or better) chance of fully recovering from Covid (and did) and the vaccine is purportedly 95% effective while surrounded by many unknowns. Further I am beyond skeptical of anything that the government tells me is safe and effective and even more skeptical of anything being pushed by Big Pharma. Although the report has pretty much been buried even the CDC stated recently that of all the reported Covid deaths less than six percent of the deceased had fewer than an average of 2.6 pre-existing contributing comorbidities. Everybody is going to believe what they're going to believe and everybody has to do what they believe is best for them personally and I'm not looking to change anyone's mind about any of it. However, I consider myself to be an independent thinker and I don't believe much of anything that anybody tells me on face value. As an old retired analyst I depend on and trust my own research and conclusions and no vaccine is where I'm at on this one. And I say good for you regarding all you are doing to support the effort to help people. The world needs more of you. snagged in outlet 3, awhuber, Ham and 3 others 5 1 "Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large groups." So in other words, the Editors running the KC Star are huge liars just like the ones running the St. Louis Post-Disgrace....why am I not surprised ? skeeter Posted January 7, 2021 Posted January 7, 2021 I'm certainly no expert but it seems common sense that a large part of the reason for not vaccinating more people is the astounding requirement that the Pfizer mRNA COVID vaccine has to be kept at 90 degrees below zero Fahrenheit to remain effective. When Pfizer first announced the vaccine success, the highly-respected non-profit, academic medical center "Mayo Clinic" immediately announced that even they had no refrigerated facilities that could maintain that incredibly low temperature. That has obviously been since rectified but not everywhere else ! By the way, Thank You President Trump for the "Warp Speed" vaccine program you initiated and thank you for getting major manufacturing Companies to agree to divert their production facilities to making the life-saving Ventilators that were in such short supply. snagged in outlet 3 Posted January 7, 2021 Posted January 7, 2021 KU update. What I stated earlier from brother in law came from a conversation a few weeks ago. Maybe a month. I just checked and he said they are at capacity in the ICU with no beds available and are trying to get more ICU beds setup. They are now swamped with Covid patients. So I apologize for the previous misinformation. Flysmallie, Quillback, BilletHead and 5 others 4 4
Ham Posted January 7, 2021 Posted January 7, 2021 There has definitely been a post holiday surge. People are tried of the restrictions, the masks, the social distancing, and the sacrifices. I certainly understand and share those frustrations. If the vaccine is all they say it is and vaccine production is what they say it is, I am hoping that we will soon see the beginnings of a gradual drop off in cases and that by the fall of 2021 things will be MUCH better. nomolites, bfishn, Quillback and 2 others 5 Every Saint has a past, every Sinner has a future. MOPanfisher Posted January 7, 2021 Posted January 7, 2021 I will be part of the control group for ya. When it become available to me I will get the vaccine. What's it gonna do to me, give me cancer? Heck maybe it will cure the version I already have, or perhaps if I get struck by lightning within 24 hrs after getting the vaccine maybe I will develop super powers. I would like to be abke to see through the water like a living live scope. With my luck my super power would turn out to be incredibly bad body odor. Daryk Campbell Sr, Quillback and BilletHead 3
BilletHead Posted January 8, 2021 Posted January 8, 2021 Here we go boys and girls! The Mrs. on the front line has stepped up. So doubters are going to doubt, Chicken littles are going to say the sky is falling. We here in this household have faith and our glasses are half full instead of half empty. You are more in danger from getting hurt or dying driving to your favorite fishing spot than getting this shot. Lets talk about this. Vaccines are life savers. Lets start with Polio. This is near and dear to me. My father had polio and I seen what it had done to him. Are any others here old enough to know someone that lived and dealt with living with polio? Tetanus, The Flu (Influenza), Hepatitis B, Hepatitis A, Rubella, Hib, Measles, Whooping Cough (Pertussis), Pneumococcal Disease, Rotavirus, Mumps, Chickenpox, Diphtheria to name a few. Polio has been eradicated smallpox not listed above has been too. To those of you waiting to see if there is any side effects to this new Covid vaccine please take time to thank those people that took their shots in the past for being trailblazers so to say. Because of them you have less to worry about today. Thank the ones who now take modern vaccines because they are protecting you by not spreading things to make you sick. Just needing to vent so thanks for listening.
