This year i have only caught 3 spots and they were all fatter than those in the pic, and the LM are all butterballs like me this year. These fish are looking better than ever. I know you have been pretty concerned about the no stocking but it really is on an uptrend since i started this bass thing about 6-7 years ago
moguy1973 Posted August 22, 2021 Posted August 22, 2021 My wife caught this double not in a traditional way. She caught the top one and was having problems getting it off the hook. I was on the other side of the pond and I told her to put it back in the water so it wouldn't die before I could run around to get it off the hook for her. She lifted it up out of the water when I got there and there were two fish on. Fun stuff. My Dad and I where fishing the Red River a LONG time ago at the mouth of the Port Lake in Pool 3. We got on a massive school of White Bass and we were catching them on Tiny Torpedos with a crappie jig trailer. Well, we both got a double hooked up and Smart guy me grabs another rod and got a 5 th fish right at boat side so now we have 5 White Bass to unhook and not a lot of free hands. we literally caught them until we were tired of it. Champ188 Posted August 22, 2021 Posted August 22, 2021 Not quite the same deal so hopefully I won't get dinged by the moderator for straying off topic, but was fishing DeGray Lake (in Arkansas) many years ago and there was an old guy spider rigging for crappie with minnows about a hundred yards away. He had a dozen rods out on his modified party barge when a school of hybrids (wipers) came thru and gang-banged his spread. He ended up losing a rod or two and had a couple more broken. He was not a happy camper when all was said and done. Not sure how many he actually landed but it wasn't many. My fishing buddy and I had to leave we were laughing so hard. Bill Babler Posted August 22, 2021 Author Posted August 22, 2021 What a nightmare. That's a great story. One White bass or 1 catfish can really sour your day, hitting the middle bait of a spider rig. It can create a gill net of lines in about a half second. Experience speaking here. That would be another great topic. Worst Wrecks you have ever had. Guiding for almost 30 years I've had some Ploozers. Thanks for playing guys, some great stuff here. Johnsfolly Posted August 22, 2021 Posted August 22, 2021 Based upon the title of the the thread this one should count. Even if it doesn't I had a lot of fun as it happened. I was fly fishing a small pond at the community that my dad lives in down in Savannah GA. Many of these pond interconnect. So you never know what might in any given pond. I had on a small sunfish bug and had been catching bluegill, redear and small bass. I hooked a smallish bluegill and while I was getting it in this largemouth inhaled the bluegill. It got stuck by the bluegill spines and the fight was on. I had a great time landing this guy. Once I got him banked the bluegill relaxed and came out of its mouth. Both were released. Quillback Posted August 22, 2021 Posted August 22, 2021 Well today I was thinking of trying a double fluke rig next time I run across some top water schoolers. Ought to get some doubles if they are really going at it. Ran across this blast from the past. cheesemaster and Johnsfolly 2
curtisce Posted August 23, 2021 Posted August 23, 2021 No photo to back this up but on a recent trip to Venice, LA I caught approximately 30 fish on one bait. The fish was a hard head catfish which are mouth brooders. The male holds the eggs in it mouth until they hatch. the young will return to the mouth for protection as well. I pulled this act in and when I was getting the hook out small 1-11/2" babies came pouring out of it's mouth. Not sure how that cat was going to eat a shrimp with a mouth full of it's young.
