The mental health issue has always been a slippery slope.  HIPA made it even harder when it locked down alot of Medical Records.  But the fact is, most of the shooters have a mental issue they are facing and can lie about it on the forms.  Unless there is a legal record of it in the NCIC database, the background check will go thru.

Several prominent gun writers have agreed on the fact that Males under 21 have been the majority of the problem in some articles I have read.  Most states, they can't buy alcohol or cigarettes.  Studies have shown that 21 seems to be a maturing age.  I don't have any issues with the 21 limit.

Roy Blunt is making a show of good faith, but in reality, we all knew something was going to come down the pipes.  The Senate version is less than the restrictions set forth by the House version.

The red flag thing is BS.  A medical doctor should determine the mental stability of a person, not a court.  I question the court's mental capacity all of the time.

Spending more money on mental health and developing some kind of reporting that would tie into the background check process would be a start.  The Senate version aims for that somewhat.  But sharing of mental issues is a medical thing that really can't be shared as of now.

Many of the last shooters posted online their intentions and were having mental issues in plain sight.  They should have been stopped before the shooting ever happened.

Background Checks were the best thing to happen, they catch alot of things before it goes wrong.  I will be the first to say, there are alot of people that don't need to own guns.  That is why I keep mine close.

Them old marlin semi auto .22s were the first hunting gun for many of my generation and I've never known of one used in a mass murder. I doubt Blunt even knows  what semi automatic means. I wonder if some on this board do.

So if you raise the age to 21 shouldn't we also raise the age to vote, or serve in the military, etc.?

I would be up for raising voting age to 21 or higher.  You need some life experience to determine who is capable of running for office.

Keep draft age at 18.  Studies show young males are more violent and we need them to defend the country.

bring back 2 parent homes and most every incident in recent history doesn’t happen.

They have advanced in 2 parent homes.  Daddy and daddy, mommy and mommy, mommy and whatever you are today, etc.  That don't seem to help much.  This last shooter was struggling to identify.

I think you should being paying taxes to vote.  If you are young and haven’t paid taxes, no vote.   On welfare, no vote.  Working under the table and not paying taxes, no vote.   Until you have skin in the game you shouldn’t be allowed to play.

It would follow that any governmental worker should be denied the franchise as well.

There is a clear conflict of interest and deep unfairness in allowing a net beneficiary or employee of the gov to vote for increased taxes.

It is in their interest to always vote to increase the funding of their benefactor to the detriment of the working public..

Being an American citizen gives you skin in the game. To take the rights of others so you get your way is the dumbest thing I have ever heard of.
