15-25 ft deep in the dock slips is what we do. go catch a bunch of bluegill, clean em and stuff your traps full of the carcasses. we have had good luck with both the round minnow style traps, and the little square ones from walmart.

I use the cheapest can dog food I can buy, poking lots of holes in it with an ice pick. I put the trap in my slip which is 18 fow. I can fill a large trap in 2 hours with huge dads. For reasons I cannot explain the smaller traps sold at Walmart.do not work. I bought a large trap years ago locally.

  3. Got on water at 6. Was going to scan for topwater striper but just a little too much chop so went to an "out of the breeze" shoreline near docks. Threw topwater pencil popper and from 6-7 am got about 9, mostly smallies, but also got my first ever striper. Not a big one mind you, but big enough to count! At 7, topwater shut down so moved around some. No love for Ned today. Got a 20" walleye on a swimbait and then hit the banks with a bandit 200 and got smallmouth that way, nothing big, just fun size. Ended the morning with 16 total.

  6. The forecast was awful for our scheduled camp out trip with the guys from Sunday School. We got drizzled on Thursday but basically we wound up having perfect weather for fishing. It was cloudy and breezy most the time but when the sun came out it was hot and muggy. It rained every night but that just made for great sleeping with the rain peppering down on the camper. Walleye and crappie was saved for the fish fry. We must have played catch and release with dozens of bass apiece. It was a great time...

Is it just me or does it seem like our traditional weather patterns are off? March was just confusing warm, cold, hot, then cold. Got March winds in April. Now we are getting April showers in May… What’s June gonna bring? lol Previous trip. I didn’t schedule any guide trips due to Mothers Day weekend. Just in case she wanted to do something spur of the moment. She’s like that…. lol Had a storm roll in that morning but looked to be pretty much done by the time I would be getting to the ramp and dump the boat in the water. Well that didn’t go as predicted. Does it ever though? Time line got extended about 2 more hours. So I waited for about 45 minutes They kept updating it and it looked like one more storm would roll through. Once it passed I headed out. Once getting to the area I wanted to fish. I dropped the trolling in the water and saw fish right away. Still scatter but better. Didn’t have to cover as much water until you saw another group of them. The thing was they wouldn’t bite. The thunder and lightning seems to always make theyfinicky. I just kept turning the trolling motor looking for one to put a minnow in front off. Ended with just shy of a limit. I’ll take it with how they were acting. WT was 73-75. Pretty clear water. Lake elevation was 1126.5. The Corp dropping the lake faster than normal this year. So that’s gonna change the norm up maybe. Fished a main river flat in 12 to 17 fow. As the day went on they moved over deeper water. Best was 15 fow. They all seemed to be about 8-10 feet deep all day. Setup was minnow rigging BnM poles 16ft PST’s with 1oz rigs that I tie up with using vanguard tackle/Pico Lures I felt more confident after seeing them moving back out. It should be any week now that they’ll get mad. Got a rain coming in today . Went ahead cancel a trip out for today to be safe. Saturday gonna play it by ear with how much rain we got to determine where to fish. We’ll see…. Good Fishing and God Bless Lance

    2023 Garden Time

My daughter and me started a bunch of tomatoes this year (full sleeve of solo cups worth). We only had room for 7 plants. The Neighbors/office got the rest. Starting some pole beans. Daughter’s herbs are in the ground. Cilantro, purple basil, green basil, and thyme. Plan to add parsley and chives. Maybe a couple stalks of sweet corn.

They’re just digging I think, not eating. I found a peanut in the garden the other day. 😀 The neighbor feeds the squirrels. They’re leaving the suet alone for now, but they’ve been on it before. We’ve got a downy woodpecker that we see a lot on the suet feeders. Hummingbirds and orioles are here!

    Fly Fishing Species 2023

    48) Whitetail Shiner a quick float down the Buffalo River yielded a few new species on fly. Not a Flyfer. Cyprinella are fun. Pretty aggressive guys that hunt in groups of a few fish rather than large schools.

The very backends of narrow wooded (shaded) coves, preferably ones that are situated so that the mouth of the cove faces South. As far as depth...... I'd start by placing them at the depth where you can just barely (but not quite) see the bottom. Bait with a double-fistful of dead crappie minnows, and/or some pieces of ham or rib bones. Disclaimer: I have absolutely ZERO experience trapping crawdads.....but one of my closest friends is a fisheries biologist, and I bet I could do better than him at it 😅

    Saturday 5/13

My grandson's soccer game was canceled, so I decided to go try my luck at LOZ in my yak. I launched at Gravois Mills. I was on the water and fishing gear by 6:30am. The water temps for the day were in the low to mid 70's. I fished channel swing bank and the shallow flat side as well. I fished until 2pm. I ended up with 15 bass, only one dink of a keeper that measured about 15.5". I did lose one that looked as though it would have measure 16-17". I caught one on a spinnerbait and the rest on a Texas rigged, Zoom Craw. The bass I caught were shallow. I saw a lot of empty beds in the pockets I went up into. I may have had better quality in main lake or fishing deeper. It was still fun as most of the fish were in that 12-14" range and were fighters. Didn't take any pics this trip.

    Just funny stuff

I can relate to this. One of my fondest memories as a kid growing up in California before movibg back here in my junior year of high school was sitting over a giant red or black and hill with a magnifying glass.

Nice cooler of slabs! I agree, the weather has been weird all spring. Supposed to get down in the upper 40's early Sunday morning.
