  1. Hey Guys!!! This is your chance to help a wonderful man and his family and win a new Ranger boat at the same time. The top 3 prizes are pretty nice and I'm sure a lot more prizes will follow for this great cause. I even bought TWO tickets, as that's the only way I'll ever see a new boat. http://www.officerpearson.com/ Thank You and God Bless, Ken Spaanem

  2. Ken, I just wanted to say thank you for supporting law enforcement by making everyone aware of this fund raiser. I challenge everyone on this forum to spread the word both on the forum and to your friends who are not members to help Officer Pearson and his family by purchasing a raffle ticket(s) yourself as well as encouraging others to do the same. Thanks again Ken!

  4. That's exactly right. These guys are shooting for high 70's. Anything under 70 and it is a Mud Wallower, even fully loaded with the gear that these guys carry. Last year during the TR Elite that Mike won, Beck and I followed him in my Phoenix. He was running the Stratos Elite. My prop was a bit messed from Taneycomo, but still pretty functional and we were chasing him with my boat running 74.8 and he was leaving us most of the time. Bill and I were guessing he was running about 77 and the difference between 77 and 74 is you are out of sight pretty quick. You drop down to 67 vs 77 and you are wasting time in $100,000.00 tournaments that you really don't have to waste. For me 67 is very fast. Most of my clients start to squirm at 45. Boat looks like it has a very nice layout as I said, with the resources they have in place and now the engineering, I believe you are going to see some kind of something special from them.

  5. Takes a special kind of character and courage to do what these folks do every day to keep everyone safe and sound. Just makes my blood boil anytime I hear of one of them being injured/killed. There's more evil than ever out there and these officers sure aren't getting rich while fighting it. We have several on this board who are either retired or active-duty police officers. Thank you, fellows. Mean it.

    What's Cooking?

Deer, mushroom and barley soup. Cheddar herb biscuits. This was ready when Mrs. BilletHead got home from work. She was happy and this makes me happy, BilletHead

  7. Always thought the dots "deadened" the action and feel of a wart. Would not clear coat over them just in case they oxidize underneath. If anything slap them on and give them a quick coat of nail polish or epoxy.

    Mail Call Tuesday!

Barker has won a won over 6 figures fishing it, so I kind of tend to rely on how he does it. The v37 is also I believe Beck's favorite Brown Craw. Nice comment on the leaf Stonner, more than a great example. lots of times you just lose it or it stops wiggle warting. That's a BITE. Good Gosh we got to get off this Board and onto the water.

  10. Saw the Lew's team and the boat out at Academy Sports. I've got my ticket. Also shared this over on Pirate4x4.com. which has 275k+ members. So, hopefully bring in a few tickets.

  11. My biggest problem is keeping the carbon blown out of mine since I putter around at 3500-4000 most of the time. This is how I roll also. Makes for a much cheaper and more pleasant day. Maybe a little hammer down for a mile or so on the last run back in just for kicks. A little WOT at the beginning and end of the day is good!

  12. Blows my mind how some of these guys afford to fish the way they drive their boats. I wonder if maybe they saved a bunch of money by not buying a throttle assembly. All some of them need is an ignition switch since they run wide open at all times and under all circumstances. My biggest problem is keeping the carbon blown out of mine since I putter around at 3500-4000 most of the time.

  13. Be sure to put this on there: Roaring River Resort & RV Park

  14. Yep. It's all not about top end. 72 is plenty, and even with the cheaper gas right now, it's still expensive to mash the ol hotfoot down all day. I haven't converted to all Ned fishing yet, so I still like to have a few bucks for a megabass from time to time..

  15. I'm gonna get me a "Hillary in 2016" sublimated jersey with all my "pro staff" fishing logos added, enter every derby Champ fishes this year, and follow him around like those spectator boats at the Bassmaster classic, just because.

  16. I know and that is where the trick can come in with generation. You never know what they will do with flows. That's the only reason I mentioned the boat option. Regardless of whether its Taney or a trout park, boat or wading, I just enjoy trout fishing wherever it is.

  17. So my Cougar going 72 MPH at WOT isn't doing too bad ? I'm running a Fury 26 pitch and my analog Tach is saying 5800 ish. I'm usually running at 45-50 mph and the boat is a lot more stable at 70 mph, but I have seen a GPS 72.something, Lots of folks saying upper 70's etc for that boat and motor, but that's what I have seen.

  18. The trout parks do not provide the potential of catching a state record brown trout or in some cases even a small brown trout. So I have to go with Taneycomo as the better option. Due to the distance from my house I do fish the trout parks frequently, but dream about Taneycomo.

  19. Just ran those numbers, and yes, that is highly improbable. Think "real" difference is because it does not take anything else related to the boat or lake into account- hull, weight, water temp, etc. Just gives you the maximum possible number, if the prop were just spinning on a stick like a pinwheel. That is all the math I intend to do today. You may have injured me.

  20. I wish every state and municipality in this nation provided full medical coverage for their police officers and firefighters. Seems shameful to me that they don't. I served 5 years in the Air Force during peacetime and now qualify for full VA health coverage for life. I choose to use private care, but the fact is that VA care is available. Shouldn't be any different for police and firefighters. They see a lot more "action" in a month's time than I ever did in my 5 years in the military.

  22. If the trout parks had 22 miles of creek, they might be less packed as well.
    1 point
  23. Even when Taney is packed you can find some water to fish without a crowd. Last spring when I was down the upper end from Fall creek to Cooper was pretty crowded so we went in and below Roark. Some good fish down there. Cleos, kastmaster and suspending stick baits can be great down there. At a trout park its hard to find an unoccupied area to fish. Last time I was at Montauk we were shoulder to shoulder in a hole and I was the only one catching fish. White thread jig under a float was great and no one else had one. One of the guys who had been there a couple days and not done well told me about that and I gave him one.....he started catching fish right away. So I agree that Taney is better than the parks.

  24. This tragedy can't be made right, but reducing the families financial woes by spending a few bucks on a raffle ticket, or maybe five ... sign me up. Makes my desire for blue water black lights on my rub rail seem a little less pressing. Besides when I win that new Ranger I'd have just have to buy a new set for the new boat, so it can wait. If any of you are so inclined the family needs prayers too. I sincerely hope he makes a miraculous recovery. Reports say he's already exceeded the doctor's estimates on his rehabilitation (i.e. walking with assistance).

  25. so what is theoretical max on a 26 pitch with 5800 rpm's ? if you did 26 inches per revolution x 5800 rpm x 60 min = max possible inches per hour divided by 63360 inches per mile ? that isn't giving me a likely number. Hmmm gear reduction???

  27. Alex, Kelly Power could tell you everything you'd want to know about the Z9 --- setup, his personal experiences, etc. I believe he had one of the first ones off the production line and he knows his stuff about boats.

  28. For comparison purposes, my single-console Ranger Z119c with a 225 Pro XS and 25p Tempest Plus will GPS at 70 mph on the nose (GPS) at 5950 RPM in perfect conditions (water temps of 50 degrees or below and a light chop). That's with an average load of gear/fuel and a well-above average human load (shut up Babler and denjac). That's also figuring in a pretty light load in the livewell.

  29. Dude. Those performances, were paid gigs. It's what musicians do. Just because Chris Young played Fourth of July at Ft. Wood last year didn't mean he or any other musician donated his time. I know, I was audio crew chief on that show. USO tours, millitary base concerts, etc etc are all paid gigs, from a combination of tax dollars and corporate sponsors. It's great that tickets were donated, but be aware that donated tickets are a direct tax write off for the artist. I'm not just commenting about Uncle Ted. Musicians that talk about all they do for the millitary when in fact they are getting paid the same rate as any other of their gigs, just sort of personally rubs me the wrong way, no matter their political views.

  30. A true gps 80 is a tall order for a bass boat. Only a few hulls get there on any sort of regular basis with a fishing load- and they are pretty much your gambler/Stroker/bullet/allison types. Bass Cat Erya is probably on that list, but most of the others top out mid/high 70's. A 25 pitch prop, turning 5800 through 1.75 gears has a theoretical max speed of 78. Add in an average bass boat slip of 10 percent, and that drops to 70mph. Lower slip percentages than 10 percent are very tough to attain with a bass boat, so if you are there, your setup is truly dialed in.

  31. Personally, I think blowhards like Nuge and Moore, and the rest of their buddies on the hard right and hard left are a big part of what's wrong with this country. They blabber on, all day, every day, each trying to say something more obnoxious than the other in a battle for ratings and advertising dollars. I don't think they even believe their own spew. They believe in money and a career without actually having to hold down a real job and contribute in a positive way to society. Their blabber makes it near impossible for the overly image concious knuckleheads in DC to make any compromises with each other at all, leaving our government frozen in the sad state it's been in the last 15 or so years. If all of these "media patriots" gave a crap about our country, or people, they would be actually doing something productive rather than talking all day.

  33. I look at the money that I have invested in the great sport of fishing and buying a couple of tickets for a GREAT cause seems like the right thing to do. Our Police Officers are more at risk today, than ever in the history of our country. I can only imagine what he and his family are going through right now.

  34. I can see that it has been a while since you have wade fished taneycomo. Just like most of missouri's public waters, whether it be trout, bass, or crappie or urban pond. The influx of unethical and inconsiderate souls is overwhelming. Where do all of these idiots come from? THey most likely are the same people that cut you off in traffic or stradle two parking spaces at the shopping mall. The same people that think they are at an unfair advantage if you catch fish and they do not. They want equal access to the water you are fishing. But you know what? I love every minute of it, and the daily circus show is very entertaining.

  35. Nugent would get drunk on a tour bus with the rest of his rock and roll buddies until he stopped selling records and the music industry died, and then he would find a new career as a loudmouth talking head... No one in the public eye is lining up to fight and die for this country. That's up to the poor kids signing up on the GI bill and then coming home missing limbs and having to fight the country they fought for to get decent healthcare out of the VA.

  42. We've got sonar units with GPS, 2D imaging, sidescan, downscan and 360-degree scan. We've got remote-controlled and GPS-guided trolling motors. We've got high-quality digital cameras that will record our entire fishing trip and cost less than $300. But we can't come up with anything better than the line-twisting, knuckle-knocking, antiquated piece of crap that is the current state of the SPINNING REEL?

    Your Personal Best

This would have been part of my "personal best on one cast", but the second bass flopped off just before it hit the net. This fish was 8-10, and the second bass was "15 or 16 inches" according to the net man, who shall remain nameless because he's so slow. Caught in southern Alabama during last year's Classic (not on Guntersville...but on a small lake managed for bass).

  48. Rapala BX Wake minnow is worth looking at, weighs 3/4 oz so it can be cast far, has a good waking action, not as hard to wake as a Redfin can be. I caught fish on it last summer, but didn't fish it enough to decide if it is equal to a good jointed Redfin.
