I took Tina out this morning for a quick fishing trip in the boat. We started with tiger tail buggers and each caught a few rainbows. When that slowed down, I switched to a sulphur colored crackleback stripped just under the surface. We caught a few more and missed more than we caught. It is hard to wait a second or two for them to turn before setting the hook when you see them follow and take the fly. When that action slowed, I anchored above a grass bed that usually holds some nice rainbows and set up indicator rigs with a Y2K and ruby midge dropper. We had steady action on that combo until we left at 10:30 as it was getting pretty hot. We ended the morning with around 20 between us. Here's a couple of the better ones...5 points

So Susie , old baseball buddy J Pike and I headed to Montauk yesterday morning. Older brother gave glowing reports on his last camping trip there so we headed out. Not as crowded as I expected but it was only Thursday. We started in the bait zone with ultra light fly rod outfits expecting the normal stocker size fish we've seen in the trout parks for the last several years. Caught a lot of 10-12" fish but was looking for a brown trout. Over the years, the combination of high temps and low water has brought browns I assume out of the river into the park. We've caught a lot of big browns under those conditions until the lads started banging them down below the cable. I did find a nice fish in the 4.5-5# range and hooked him on about the 3rd cast on my old reliable fox squirrel nymph. It was a pretty good fight for the first 4-5 minutes but she finally threw the hook. Shortly after we headed to the fly zone and did find more fish which is usually the case and they were harder to catch which is also usually the case. Susie and I caught a good number of fish using egg patterns drifted along the bottom. Did catch a nice 2.5-2.75# fish at Hudson's corner. She didn't want the size #18 egg but did want the old fox squirrel nymph again. All in all a nice day with the fishing and the wildlife in the park.5 points

The avatar is a sticker I bought off eBay and put on most of my kayaks. A skull with a booney hat and crossed kayak paddles. ScreenName: PowerLizard - The Berkley PowerLizard was my go to bait fishing local ponds when I joined another forum in Texas decades ago. I still use the bait so I am justified in still using the ScreenName.5 points -

Who knew you could summon Bigfoot to kill someone? Wait..... Something just occurred to me.......of all the fear that the legend of Bigfoot has spawned, has anyone ever been harmed by a Bigfoot? Scared. Maybe even chased, but never actually grabbed and gobbled up. I think it's safe to assume that Bigfoot is harmless. Even housecats are more dangerous.3 points -

The skull and crossbones is a common pirate theme. Swap out the cross bones for crossing paddles and add a booney hat and you have a River Pirate theme. It's just a fad which is why I have it as a vinyl sticker on a kayak and not a permanent tattoo on myself. What do you think about the Zombie Hunting Permit? Another fad that has faded fast.2 points -

I tend to stay away from the "salts" and prefer to use the onion powder, garlic powders, and celery seeds instead. I find that to get the flavor that I want with the salts it over salts the food. Once I have the flavor then I can salt to taste.2 points -

It was good for sure. But I watched a cooking show last week where they did the real thing. My issues: 1. There's no such thing as a sport pepper in any of the grocery stores I go to in Springfield. I subbed pepperoncini sliced lengthwise. Still pretty good. 2. Or a poppy seed bun a little bigger than average hot dog bun. The one you see is a brioche bun from HyVee. Still pretty good. Mine wasn't steamed but was warmed on the grill. 3. I didn't have any celery salt in the cabinet. No excuse sir. The rest of everything else, onions, mustard, relish and especially the tomato would be fine anywhere in Chicago.2 points -

I was using a Teckel "Knicknocker". I'll quote what it says in their description below. Spooks are a great bait too, I am not making any claims the Teckel is a better bait, but it has been working for me lately. Teckel USA Kicknocker Walking Bait is fitted with a large, singular knocker that creates a steady, rhythmic thud, while extending casting distance and making the bait incredibly easy to walk.2 points -

Work has been a grind and I haven't had the energy to put into lengthy posts. So this will be brief and photo heavy (for @snagged in outlet 3 @tjm) . Most trips were for potential lifers. Watt's creek - in search of silverjaw minnows No silverjaws 😒. Pretty suburban creek. Smallest largemouth that I recall ever catching (ca. 1.5 to 2") Did catch my first central stoneroller in Maryland 😁. Tuscarora Creek Trying again to catch a potomac sculpin - missed one and spooked one 😒. Livie caught a bluehead chub (first in MD) in this hole. Then I had to catch one - also my first in MD. Potomac River - Swain's Lock Trying to catch our first longear sunfish in Maryland. Only caught lots of redbreast sunfish and one green sunfish. Monocacy River Again trying for longear sunfish. Saw lots of greenside darters but no takers. Only a couple of sunfish caught. I caught one redbreast. Livie caught this female sunfish and I never saw it until I downloaded the photos off of her phone. Let me know if you guys think that this is a female longear (I'm on fence between pumpkinseed and longear). Salty Characters Hooper's Island - Honga River MD So we were scheduled to go out for black sea bass but the captain canceled the trip due to weather. Had my BIL with us and he landed his first atlantic stingray. Chincoteague Island VA Was hoping to catch a feather blennie or seaboard goby. Neither were spotted. My wife hooked up with a cownose ray that she fought for and thought that she might break her rod. Lost the fish as we were landing it and no photos. Had plenty of others though. Sue with Croaker (ate this one and others baked whole with spicy asian sauce 😉) We all caught pigfish. And spot croakers Livie and I microfished some and we both caught oyster toadfish from the rocks. Livie had to move a rock from the hole that I caught this gjuy just so that I could get it's head out and land it. We also both caught nice male striped blennies (this is Livie's mine is posted on my microfishing thread). Belmar and Atlantic City NJ Last weekend we booked a trip for fluke out of Belmar NJ. We were not prepared for the speed of the drift and spent most of the time with baits well off of the bottom. Did have a couple of spots where we made contact and Sue caught some black sea bass and we both caught a number of northern searobins. did not get Sue her first flounder 😒 the next day we hit a couple of piers and jetties in Atlantic City trying for a northern kingfish (again no luck - seems like a trend). We caught a few tautogs and small black seabass before calling it a day and heading home. We've been hard at it but just not getting our target species, but more to come.1 point -
Here's a 3600-size box of Northland jigs--ain't gonna count 'em as I'm too lazy--that I've had around for a couple of decades. There are two sizes, one of which I'm guessing is ⅛ ounce, and the other probably 1/16. Eight compartments contain weedless version in both sizes, using a two-pronged, plastic weedguard. The other 9 compartments are standard roundheads. There is one caveat: the eyes are painted and need to be cleaned. $28 TYD.1 point

Sluggos were definitely before the Banjo. I fished them a lot as well. The Banjos had great action, but were more costly and they just didn't hold up to many fish. So I stopped using them. Once I fixated upon the fluke (baby bass😉), I hardly went back to the sluggo. I still use the fluke for most of my creek and small river bass fishing thouhg I don't do that as much any more. I don't even use the super fluke that much either.1 point -

Yes, sport peppers are a hard-to-find thing in our parts. I picked and pickled some serranos from our garden. Bingo! Really close to the real deal. Neon pickle relish is another deal that is a mystery item. went with what we had on hand. took buns and toasted them on a hot griddle. This was a good deal as we did not get a soggy bun. Last but not least fellows you really need to acquire and use the celery salt. One word for that gamechanger. Freddys makes a decent Chicago dog, but I was introduced to then at sonic. They were very good and i wish they would bring them back, but we all know made at home is the very best.1 point -

I'm quite a fan of the Lizard myself. There's just something about a lizard.....but you gotta believe in it. 👍 I'm not, however, a fan of SKULLS, and it blows me away that you can't go anywhere without seeing them plastered on EVERYTHING. Cars, Trucks, motorcycles, boats, guitar cases, ect. The most popular screen saver loaded on PC's and cell phones is.... you guessed it....a Skull. Plus, every dude that is into body-ink has a skull somewhere among his permanent collection of body art. It is the first thing that a tattoo artist learns to draw. Maybe YOU can tell me......What exactly is the significance, or allure of parading a dead and rotting human head on everything you own ? I just don't get it. What does this mean ? It's as if everybody knows, but me. 🤷♂️1 point -

Vented Yamaha SHO Engine Cover ???
grizwilson reacted to fishinwrench for a topic
A mud dauber nest anywhere inside your cowling will feed abrasive material into your air intake, as vibration causes it to turn back into dust and grit. Marine engines don't have air filters....since dusty roads aren't where you operate them. It's a good idea to remove your cowling occasionally......just to make sure nobody has "moved in".1 point -

If there’s a deep crank bite out there it’s NOT in the kings river! Caught several 10-13 inchers 3 days in a row, mostly kys. Kids had a blast catching perch while I was determined to catch a keeper. Did catch a handful of keepers in 3 days, couple on buzzbaits and the rest were on shallow running crank baits/squarebills. Fished up to the blue hole back to the mouth over 3 days. Wt:87-90 in some places.1 point -

My philosophy: Unless you are a guide, why but a boat longer than 17 - 18 feet? Buy two stroke engines. Service annually unless it is an ETEC, then every other year. Lead acid batteries annually, unless you can afford lithium. Rarely run at WOT, but do so for 2 or 3 minutes maybe once a month. If you aren't using it more than 50 times a year, sell it.1 point -

Garden 2022

Well, this time I'm pissed off. Someone stole all my gardening tools out of the tool shed last night. Cut the lock off the door. They took 3 shovels, 2 rakes, a 5gal bucket full of new hand tools, 1000+ zip ties, and 10 rolls of stretch tape to tie up my maters. Pretty much everything that was in a bucket right inside the door was taken. About $300 worth of stuff. I have the vehicle on security camera as well as the people faces. Do you think the cops would come and make a report for theft and trespassing 2 times in the same week? Nope, it's a non violent crime so they aren't responding. Gonna be ugly when I shoot someone with my s&w governor loaded with slugs for trespassing on marked property ,looks like it's time to take out the trash, I shoot first ask questions later, when you live in the sticks, and you don't have law enforcement, under current MO laws I reserve the right to protect my family and our property from trespassing thieves. I don't know who these people are or what they are gonna do next. 😂🤔😮0 points
